JONATHAN HOBBS: Hove stages the final major four-bend competition of the year with the start of the Coral Greyhound Olympic – and there are Greyhound of the Year and distance category permutations with this 515m event, starting on Saturday.
Six heats of the Olympic have drawn a top-class field headed by Bockos Doomie, who continues to prove an exciting runner for Patrick Janssens having won the Henlow Puppy Derby and ran-up in the Kent Derby.
Back with a C&D victory at Hove after Shelbourne Night Of Stars disappointment, Bockos Doomie must be on the ante-post short-list and will be all the rage for his heat. However, could there be value against him?
Looking at Saturday’s heats, a few tasty bets stand out . . .

7.17: Heat one of the Olympic where the red-jacketed runner makes appeal. Matt Dartnall’s Brynoffa Ben is a better dog against the fence and could get first run on the consistent Shoot The Bolt next door. Respect here to Swansalona Playa also.

7.33: Heat two might see the locals shine again with Waste House Eco fancied. Stuart Maplesden’s dog ran well in the Sussex Cup, finishing third to Droopys Gold, and has the all-round speed to take some holding. Nice Mystery might well lead up, but the selection will not be far away.

7.49 Volcanic Reef cut loose from a midfield draw last week and, once in front, is rarely headed. He traps better off the fence so the blue-jacket tonight can see Heather Dimmock’s runner get first run in heat three. Brighton Belle winner Galloping Moon rates the chief threat.

8.06: Seamus Cahill has a strong hand here with Brickfield Whiz and Ravens Burger and preference is for the former. He’s a lightly raced improver and paces up well and could be the one to catch. Britannia Will ran well last week and must be respected.

8.21 Bockos Doomie lines up as the long-odds favourite and must be a huge player for outright honours after an easy win last week. Hove looks tailor-made for him, although it might also play to the strengths of powerful Kevin Hutton runner Headford Ranger, who looks well drawn inside.

8.38: The final heat sees British Bred Derby winner King Sheeran look to make it a fantastic week for connections by winning heat six. He starts and stays well and, clearly in good order, might always hold a handy advantage outside. Ballymac Osby runs on well.
