PREVIEW
Chelsea continued their excellent run of form by hammering QPR 6-1 last time out and it also proved a magical afternoon for the much-maligned Fernando Torres. The Spaniard followed up his equaliser in the Nou Camp with a well-taken hat-trick on Sunday and he can expect another start this evening.
It’s been a fascinating battle for fourth all season and Chelsea have an opportunity to really lay down the gauntlet. As it stands, Tottenham are level on points with Newcastle and a defeat for the Magpies in West London would leave them with a mountain to climb if they want the final Champions League spot.
The meeting earlier in the season between the clubs was a one-sided affair as the Blues left St James’ Park with a 3-0 win. It’s now been three games since Newcastle beat Chelsea and that came in a Carling Cup contest. Chelsea have been utterly dominant in the league against their next opponents and they’ve gone nine unbeaten league games against them, which includes five victories.
Newcastle have had a fine campaign to date, but suffered a shock defeat at Wigan last time out as they conceded four times against Roberto Martinez’ side. Their away form has been inconsistent with three wins and three defeats in their previous six away league games.
Chelsea are unbeaten at home in 2012 and I expect them to get the better of Alan Pardew’s side. Back the home win at around 1.54 on BETDAQ.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Chelsea at 1.54: 6 points
Tuesday’s Return: -6 points
MAY RETURN TO DATE: -6.0
