PREVIEW
Dublin has already seen some great darts action over the last couple of days and the Irish capital is set for more tonight when the second round matches get underway.
Mervyn King meets Dave Chisnall and both players were largely unimpressive in squeezing through their openers. The pair know they will have to up their game if they are to progress much further in the tournament.
King somehow edged out number eight seed Terry Jenkins in a thrilling contest on Monday. The higher-ranked Jenkins missed three darts for a straight sets victory and then two further darts to take the decider, before King finished on double 16 to edge through.
World number 13 Chisnall saw off debutant Dean Winstanley, but also needed a deciding leg in a nervy match. However, he has come out and said he is looking forward to the longer format from now on and he hit a marginally higher average than his rival tonight achieved. He also hit four 180s to King’s three.
Chisnall has a far superior head-to-head record over King and, with his nerves likely to be settled now he has erased the memory of last year’s cruel first round exit in this competition, when he missed 13 darts to defeat Alan Tabern, he is a good bet to justify favouritism at around 1.68 on BETDAQ.
