A setback with Thiem who succumbed in three sets to Borna Coric.
The first set tiebreak went against us but after Thiem recovered to win the second set 6-2 it was something of a shock to not see him go on and win. In the depressing process he blew six break points in the final set.
Hopefully it’s not case of once bitten twice shy but I’m sticking with Thiem on Monday as he faces Diego Schwartzman.
Thiem boasts a 5-2 advantage in their career head to heads, including the last time they met in Vienna where Thiem recovered from losing the first set to run out a pretty comprehensive victor.
Like Thiem, Schwartzman also suffered an opening match defeat in the inaugural ATP Cup. He was disappointing when losing to Hubert Hurkacz in three sets – despite taking an early lead in the match.
Schwartzman is also more effective on a clay surface and it’s Thiem who can hopefully oblige – currently trading at around 1.53 on BETDAQ (0% COMMISSION !!)
