RACING AT LAST: To say it’s been a quiet week would be an understatement but racing finally resumes at Dundalk tonight.

At last we get some Irish racing tonight thanks to the all-weather card at Dundalk but unfortunately Sunday’s card at Cork has already fallen victim to the weather. The card, featuring the Hilly Way Chase, was cancelled on Friday morning after the course was found to be flooded.

At the moment no problems are anticipated for Sunday’s John Durkan card at Punchestown although the ground is already heavy. Racing manager Richie Galway said: “The ground is heavy, but we’re perfectly raceable. We’ll monitor things for the next 24 hours or so, but we should be fine.”

Automated looks the nap on the card for trainer Ger Lyons in the Big Bad Bob Maiden at 8.35. He is now 17 runs without a win but has done most of his recent work in handicaps and continues to run well. Unfortunately, he has paid the price for some runs in better class company as a three-year-old when trained by Clive Brittain (including Group 3 races). As often is the case, the handicapper has taken too long to relent. He was only beaten a neck and short head over course and distance last time out and the switch back to maiden company should bring about an overdue first success.

Alamgiyr showed promise in fourth on debut at Navan and should improve both for the run and tonight’s step up in trip and looks the danger.
