VERY ELUSIVE: Shamrock is still coming to terms with the defeat of his nap yesterday but his lay bet came up trumps.
Whenever I get it wrong, I try and find a reason. It’s in the belief that it will help me in my selection process in the future but I’m at a loss to explain the length defeat of yesterday’s nap Leitir Mor at Dundalk.
He was well backed in the market, appeared to handle the Polytrack for the first time without any problems and still couldn’t record that first win – the race going to the lightly raced Very Elusive.
Given that Leitir Mor was runner-up in a Group 1 he should really have outclassed this field and it will be interesting to see what move trainer Jim Bolger makes next with the colt. He does have an entry in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month.
Thankfully, the nap damage was repaired with the other bet of the day, a lay of Seeking Luck, who finished second at 11/10.
At Roscommon this evening Oscars Joy looks good for a winning hurdling debut. She looked good when winning a bumper at Limerick and this doesn’t look a strong contest.
The opener looks set to be fought out between Cocktail Hour and Uleavemebreathless who were both placed at the Curragh on debut. Preference is for the former.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Oscars Joy (6.35 Roscommon)
NEXT BEST: Cocktail Hour (4.05 Roscommon)
