A DOUBLE OF DOUBLES: Shamrock yesterday had two winners out of three in his trio for the second day running: Elizabeth Coffee (WON 7-2) and Aloof (WON 4-6) following Bishopsfurze (WON 7-4, nap) and Zaidpour (WON 30-100) the day before.
Call the police! There’s a raider at Gowran Park. He’s the champion trainer yet has one runner all day. It’s clearly a plot, and the loot will be stashed at County Carlow.
The Willie Mullins winner factory there is in overdrive and the MCR Hurdle runner-up, Call The Police, now switched to fences (2.30), has to be my nap, though doesn’t have it all his own way.
Some 17 others will be trying to foil the raid but Call The Police, who has schooled like a dream, is more than a stone ahead of the others on hurdles form. Bar one, that is.
Aitmatov rated better in his prime but has started his chase career at a very late stage – he’s 11 years old in a month or so – and I’d prefer something like Drinmore entry Gates Of Rome as the danger.
Abbey Glen (3.05) looks equally interesting first time in a handicap over fences, as a Presenting and the conqueror of Bideford Legend over hurdles. Connections are shrewd at the handicapping game.
The standout in the bumper to complete my three is Saluting, and I fancy a bit each way on John The Soldier in the 3m hurdle, with Davy Russell booked: 11.5. Nice guys, those Betdaq layers.
