SALSIFY 7-1 SAVES SOME IRISH PRIDE: Shamrock couldn’t follow up his 16.5 Sir Des Champs’ gamble (WON 3-1) but Salsify (WON 7-1) in the Foxhunter saved some of the bacon on Cheltenham’s final day.

DOWN ROYAL: Aintree Grand National entries Psycho, In Compliance, Saddlers Storm and Killyglen make the feature chase an interesting race but a tricky one to bet in.

It’s hard to fancy Psycho on his first run of the year but Killyglen is one paced and Florida Express, once fair formidable, is now rated 28lb inferior to the favourite.

At 6.6 on Betdaq this morning, Saddlers Storm (3.50), though saddled as the Tony Martin second string, could win this veterans’ chase after his Leopardstown second to my winner yesterday, Salsify.

WEXFORD: Wexford has a named Veterans Chase, which brings back old memories of skirmishes with the bookies but is even more difficult to solve.

I shall, therefore, switch to the up-and-coming chasers in the novice handicap, and go for Fourth Class (5.05 Wexford), on a mark well below his hurdles rating and in the good hands of Henry De Bromhead.

There’s money for Pass The Hat (4.00) for veteran Arthur Moore to complete a veterans’ day all round!

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Fourth Class (5.05 Wexford)
EACH WAY: Saddlers Storm (3.50 Down Royal), Pass The Hat (4.00 Wexford)
DAQ DOUBLE: Time To Work (1.35 Down Royal) and Fourth Class (5.05 Wexford)
