GOOD CALL AS SHAMROCK LANDS HIS NAP: After two doubles up in two days, Shamrock yesterday relied on Call The Police (WON 4-5) to land his nap at Gowran Park. There are two meetings in Ireland today.
The Monksfield could live up to its name at Navan today. Between Mount Benbulben and Texas Jack, both of whom have looked formidable stuff, we seem to have Cheltenham and Punchestown potential.
As I write, they are betting 2.92 the one and 2.97 t’other, with Texas Jack (12.45 Navan) just shading it. What a duel! And we haven’t got to the track yet.
Though Texas Jack has still to be extended, I’m swayed by the staying power of this Mount Benbulben, as you might expect from his pedigree.
His sire, Beneficial, has got the valiant pair Cooldine and Realt Dubh, and his dam is by Buckskin, who stayed the proverbial ‘forever.’
Whatever happens to Tony Martin’s plot, Askmeroe, in the Troytown, I shall want to be on his Nearest The Pin (2.50), a young chaser of the future, if his good run behind Days Hotel is any guide. That one has gone in again.
In the Troytown itself, I fancy Martin may just be foiled on a grey day: Hughies Grey is another who stays forever (won the Ulster National 3m 4f) and the Silver Patriarch grey Wicklow Lad looks lightly in under Adrian Heskin.
At Wexford, Ceol Rua (1.25) is the hub of my Daq Trio, and Littletown Lass (2.00) looks an improver for Sean Byrne the way she’s been running lately.
