SHAMROCK THE NAPS BOSS: Shamrock landed another winning nap on Saturday in the opener at Fairyhouse, The Bosses Cousin who defied a market drift to win at 5/4. It was 100% on the day as the other selection was a NR. 4 from the last 5 naps have won.
Today’s Tied Cottage Stakes at Punchestown was always going to be the highlight of the day but the spotlight will now very much be on the race and the whole card at Punchestown following the abandonment of Kempton, Musselburgh and Fontwell.
With due respect to Imperial Shabra he looks booked for third of three but fair play to connections for spotting an opportunity for decent prize money.
It’s a shoot-out between Big Zeb and Sizing Europe and BETDAQ traders have made Big Zeb the 1.79 favourite with Sizing Europe 2.22 and any price you like on Imperial Shabra.
Colm Murphy is sticking with the tried and tested route for Big Zeb.
Big Zeb has won seven of his last nine races, with his two defeats in that time coming in this race 12 months ago to the ill-fated Golden Silver and at Cheltenham, behind Sizing Europe.
He meets Henry de Bromhead’s excellent chaser once again, but spirits in the camp are high after he gained his revenge on Sizing Europe at Punchestown in May and has looked better than ever in his two races so far this season.
“He runs well at Punchestown, he’s very consistent and he’s a better horse in the spring, at least it seems that way over the years,” said Murphy.
“We’re very happy with him and everything has gone well with him so it’s fingers crossed now.
“Ideally you would like better ground but that will be the case for us all and a few more runners in the race wouldn’t go amiss.
I’m not sure it’s a race for me to get involved in with a bet – the odds are about right and there are better opportunities for me to keep the run of naps going and hopefully make it 5 from the last 6.
The card is awash with short priced favourites including Big Zeb there are four likely odds on favourites on the card.
The shortest of those is Allure Of Illusion in the opener who was third in the Aintree Champion Bumper before making an excellent jumping debut here at Punchestown when second to the useful Joxer. However, he’s around 1.25 today, so I have a plan to make the suggested bet a little more juicy and hopefully preserve the run of NAPS at the same time.
Mister Hotelier is around 1.8 for the closing flat race. He chased home Too Scoops at Fairyhouse last time out and is still going the right way.
Whilst the two selections are very short – we get around 2.17 on BETDAQ MULTIPLES for the double which looks tempting for the ‘book end’ double on the first and last races.
SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Allure Of Illiusion (1.20 Punchestown)
NEXT BEST: Mister Hotelier (4.25 Punchestown)
BETDAQ MULTIPLES double on the above pair around 2.17
