GOOD NEWS BUT THEN BAD: Shamrock landed his NAP yesterday with Letherbelucky (WON 4/5) at Punchestown trained by Willie Mullins, but then made a mistake in laying Passage Vendome in the next race – also trained by Mullins who enjoyed a treble on the night.
Clonmel stage a mixed card tonight and the opener should be fought out between Queens Visit and Quick Glimpse. The race marks the debut of Ssssssh (editor please check I’ve spelt that one right !!) – it seems anything goes when it comes to horse names now !!
Queens Visit is preferred after her promising run at Cork in April when fourth to Absolute Crackers. It was a good effort, especially as her 28/1 price tag suggested she wasn’t that fancied on debut.
Quick Glimpse also shaped well on debut, again coming in a Cork maiden. She was fourth to Montebell. That was on softer ground and part of me favouring Queens Visit tonight is she has already proven herself on a firmer surface.
Dermot Weld, trainer of Quick Glimpse, may strike in the 6.20 with No Such Number who looks to have been found an easy task for a first win. He has shown promise in two starts at the Curragh and Dundalk where he may have needed the race after a lengthy absence.
Crocus Bay is becoming an expensive horse to follow but may be able to end a sequence of four seconds in-a-row by taking the 8.00.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Queens Visit (5.50 Clonmel)
NEXT BEST: No Such Number (6.20 Clonmel)
