SHAMROCK LANDS NAP AND DOUBLE: ‘Come in for the Cold,’ advised Shamrock yesterday, and Best Served Cold (WON 13-8) launched a tasty Wexford double, completed by his nap, Groody Hill (WON 11-8).

Irish-breds rule the day at Exeter. We have the favourite in the Gold Cup, two of the three runners in the novices’ chase and 10 of the first 12 down the card in the handicap over fences.

And don’t forget the opener. The novices hurdle (1.50) looks like an Irish Points final, as Allthekingshorses and Rocky Creek meet head to head.

Both won their Point; both wins were boosted by placed horses winning next time out; both are with the best English trainers in the business, Philip Hobbs and Paul Nicholls.

Another Hobbs, also Irish bred, Midnight Ash, by Anshan, is related to a good staying hurdler. The German horse Lovcen could be the spoiler but we claim him as our own, as yet another Irish Point winner and on a sound surface at that.

Allthekingshorses and Lovcen both won on good ground, which we are likely to see at Exeter. Three of Alan King’s four winners in the last fortnight had needed a first run, so I’m swerving Lovcen and getting on Allthekingshorses.

He looked good value each way at 7.6 when I checked my Betdaq this morning though, since then, I’ve notice a lot of interest in Grand Vision. Irish-bred, of course.

Gunna Be A Devil (4.20 Exeter) looks another sound each-way investment, with trainer Jeremy Scott unstoppable at the moment: six winners out of eight.

The nap is a horse whose sire produces big-odds winners on the All Weather.

Auden (4.00 Kempton), rates the nap because the paper joint-favourite, New Hampshire, went for a long walk in the market early doors, and the closer in the betting, Proud Chieftain, has been absent 12 weeks, which is when the trainer had his last winner!

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Auden (4.00 Kempton)
NEXT BEST: Menorah (3.20 Exeter)
EACH WAY: Allthekingshorses (1.50 Exeter), Gunna Be A Devil (4.20 Exeter)
