19 Oct 2011 Champions League Marseille 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal will head into tonight’s Champions League clash in high spirits following their fantastic result at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunch-time. The Gunners’ 5-3 win against Chelsea capped off a fine few weeks for the club that has seen them back in the reckoning for the Premier League title.
A fortnight ago, Aaron Ramsey’s late strike against Marseille sealed all three points in France, to put them a point ahead of their next opponents. The Gunners won their only other home European game with a 2-1 win over Olympiacos in the opening group fixture.
The hosts will not get an easy ride this evening as the French side have won their only away game of the group. Ramsey’s late goal in Marseille is their only defeat in the group and Didier Deschamps can count himself a little unfortunate with the outcome. Even with that loss, Marseille still hold a three-point cushion over third-placed Olympiacos. Marseille have struggled in the past against English opposition and they have only recorded one victory in ten visits to England
With the game being at the Emirates, I don’t see Arsenal slipping up here. Robin Van Persie remains in awesome form and his hat-trick at the weekend took his tally to 28 league goals in 29 appearances. The victory was also the Gunners’ eighth in nine games and I’m happy to tip another victory at 1.81 on BETDAQ, which would tighten their grip on the group.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Arsenal at around 1.81: 5 points
Monday’s Return: -5.00 points
