QUICK START TO 2013 WITH A 6.4 BET: It was unlucky 13 at Punchestown yesterday when, poised on 12 naps out of 16, Shamrock’s best bet, Fatcatinthehat, fell at the last with the race at his mercy. Today’s bets were both placed behind current favourites for big races at the Cheltenham festival in March.
I’ll know my fate in the first 20 minutes of racing in 2013. My two bets are in the openers at Tramore and Fairyhouse. In both cases, form lines suggest they are overpriced.
Old Pride (12.00) ran third to the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle favourite, Jezki, on his debut and, as long as he takes to the ground today, should have too much class for Un Beau Romain: 6.4 on BETDAQ is big.
But the nap must go on Kandinksi (12.20 Fairyhouse), said to be back to his best after injury, that ‘best’ including runner-up to Simonsig, and that one is favourite for the Arkle.
