2012 winner Sizing Europe is a non runner in a race that looks wide open.
British raiders Uxizandre (in particular) and Simply Ned look interesting but the pick has to be the Willie Mullins trained Ballycasey who won well at Gowran Park last time out, making all the running. He is a Grade 1 winner over fences and probably unlucky not to be a dual one having fallen when in the lead in the Powers Gold Cup at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting.
1:50 PP Future Champions Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners)
A small but select field in which market leader Nichols Canyon looks the pick. He is preferred to the Willie Mullins other runner McKinley whose form is more exposed.
Nichols Canyon, trained by John Gosden on the flat, is now two from two over hurdles including the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse last time out – the race in which stable companion and favourite Allez Colombieres was sadly fatally injured.
Nichols Canyon won well and is clearly a useful prospect. It’s no surprise that Ruby Walsh has chosen this one in pererence to McKinley.
