SHAMROCK’S SATURDAY DOUBLE: LIVING NEXT DOOR (NAP, WON 8/11) and DAWN APPROACH (NB, WON 11/8) made it a perfect 2 from 2 for Shamrock on Saturday.
Simply Brilliant.
Not much more to say about Dawn Approach and his five length success in the 2000 Guineas. Surely he will now be allowed to take his chance at Epsom next month for which he is trading around 9/4 on the BETDAQ Derby ante-post market.
The hype bubble around Toronado exploded and looking further back in the field there were creditable runs from Aidan O’Brien’s Cristoforo Colombo (5th) and, in particular, Mars (6th) who ran himself into the Derby picture by staying on nicely on what was only his second race and FIRST race on turf !
Turn the clock back 12 months and it was Aidan’s day at Newmarket with a simply remarkable performance from Homecoming Queen who made every yard of the running to win the 1000 Guineas by nine lengths. Freak or fluke? Still trying to work that one out a year later.
Given the connections you have to respect Hot Snap but she looks worth opposing at short odds in a wide open renewal. Just as the Craven Stakes proved a massive red herring in terms of the 2000 Guineas the Nell Gwyn, won so well by Hot Snap, should also be treated with caution in terms of classic pretentions.
Moth is a interesting contender to give O’Brien back to back winners.
She quickened up in style to, excuse the pun, fly home in a Curragh maiden on her seasonal reappearance.
She will need to improve further but looks to have a sound chance, win and place.
At Limerick, Hold The Line should make it third time lucky with the minimum of fuss in the maiden at 2.40. He has run two close seconds at Naas and here at Limerick and this looks far easier.
Those who saw Jim Bolger’s An Saincheann romp home to success last week Gowran Park will by tempted by supporting her again in the step-up to Listed company in the 4.20.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Hold The Line (2.40 Limerick)
NEXT BEST: An Saincheann (4.20 Limerick)
WIN and PLACE: Moth (3.50 Newmarket)
