NOW 4 NAPS FROM 6: SHAMROCK opposes an odds-on shot at Fairyhouse with his nap today as he bids to continue his excellent recent run of form.
The naps run was halted yesterday when the nap Rashaan finished second at 9/4 to Slowmotion who looks a little bit special.
So it’s now four winning naps from the last six:
Wed: OUR MANEKINEKO (NAP) WON 2/1
Thu: VAL DE FERBET (NAP) 2nd
Fri: CAPTAIN JOY (NAP) WON 11/1 *
Sat: CLEAR CUT (NAP) WON 6/5
Sun: KYLEMORE LOUGH (NAP) WON 7/4
Mon: RASHAAN (NAP) 2nd
* Recommended as a place only bet on BETDAQ
The feature on today’s Fairyhouse card is the Normans Grove Chase (Grade 2) at 3.55pm.
Kerry Lee did me a good turn with Kylemore Lough on Sunday and she sends over Top Gamble for this who won the Game Spirit at Newbury last time out in fine style.
He lived up to his name that day and displaced Dodging Bullets as favourite. The market was spot on with Top Gamble running out a convincing 10 length winner over Dodging Bullets who was subsequently well beaten in the Champion Chase at the Festival.
Twinlight won this last year and again locks horns with Days Hotel who beat him seven and a half lengths at Naas last time in a Grade 2 but meets him on more favourable terms today.
Sizing Granite didn’t really have a hard race at Cheltenham but it certainly wasn’t a happy experience. He clattered the first and knocked the stuffing out of him before being pulled up before the 7th in the Champion Chase. He would be a big threat if back to his best but it’s quite a big ‘if’ on the back of two disappointing efforts.
Top Gamble looks like another winner for the stable of the moment – Kerry Lee.
If you like trainer stats here’s one that amazed me today. Willie Mullins has had just ONE winner from his last 45 runners. Until yesterday, his previous winner was Limini at Cheltenham but that losing sequence was finally snapped when Blow By Blow won a four runner race here yesterday.
As always, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics and you need to dig a few levels deeper to get a truer picture but there are several in that sequence that have gone off at short odds.
With this in mind, I am laying the Mullins trained Some Neck in the finale. He has already been beaten at 7/4 and 4/5 and at around evens on BETDAQ today we aren’t going to do too much damage.
We’ve got a couple of likely improvers and a couple of interesting debutants running for us.
I’m going to take a chance and oppose the odds-on Mr Diablo in the opener and nap Pink Coat. Mr Diablo ran a bitterly disappointing race last time out at Naas and even allowing for it being in a much better class race I can hardly be backing him at around 1.56 with his jumping continuing to be of concern.
Pink Coat has fair enough form claim in any case (they are both rated 130) and will come into this a fresh horse after a break.
