GOWRAN PARK EVENING ACTION: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the maiden on the Gowran Park card tonight.
I always oppose an Aidan O’Brien trained runner with trepidation – especially one that has been well backed but I’m struggling to build a big case for his Madrid in the seven furlong maiden on tonight’s Gowran Park card where the going is heavy.
Madrid will have to improve significantly from his debut run at the Curragh where he beat just two home and whilst that improvement is not beyond the realms of possibility – you are paying a very short price to find out.
Aidan also runs the expensive purchase Family Tree who is tongue tied on debut.
A safer betting proposition might well be Meagher’s Flag who ran a much more promising race on debut, also at the Curragh, when finishing second to another Aidan O’Brien trained runner in Saxon Warrior who looked very useful. With expected improvement he looks the one to be on.
