11-2 WINNER IN THE CART: Daqman, who landed back-to-back naps with Mrs Burbidge (WON 12-1) and Mokaatil (WON 2-5 from 4-5), yesterday went win and place Savannah Slew (3RD 11-2) as his best bet. Later in the day Cartwright (WON 11-2) made it another winning day.

THE STARS OF TOMORROW: After yesterday’s Top Ten list of Fortune Cookies for the autumn, Daqman today presents his Top Ten Two-Year-Olds, some of them likely weekend runners in England and Ireland this weekend, and all entered up in the big juvenile contests he listed last week (see Daqman Archive).

TOP 10 TWO-YEAR-OLDS TO FOLLOW

BARRAQUERO Brian Meehan has not had a great season but sent Barraquero out from Manton as his highlight in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, the colt’s second success after running third to Expert Eye on the debut.

The runner-up Nebo had finished within a head of Gustav Klimt at the July Meeting but was only sixth in the Gimcrack behind Sands Of Mali. Another benchmark, Cardsharp, was third in the Gimcrack and third to Barraquero at Goodwood, a similar distance behind both winners.

Entered in the Mill Reef Stakes (Newbury, Saturday, September 23) and Middle Park Stakes (Newmarket, Saturday, September 30), and 113 rated.

EQTIDAAR Hamdan-owned Invincible Spirit colt, half brother to a Dewhurst runner-up, Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, who had him ready to win first time at Nottingham last month, so clearly hopes to exploit his precocious temperament this autumn. Next stop the Sirenia Stakes at Kempton on Saturday.

EXPERT EYE Another Stoute contender for the big time shot to the front of the 2,000 Guineas market after an impressive stroll at Goodwood (officially rated a massive 117) but has scoped badly since and may not be seen until the October trials, possibly the Dewhurst.

CLEMMIE Has had a lot of racing – three wins out of four for a 108 rating – but this full sister to Churchill could have a lot more, entered as she is in the Moyglare (on Sunday), the Rockfel, Cheveley Park, Fillies Mile and Dewhurst by Aidan O’Brien.

GUSTAV KLIMT O’Brien again. By Galileo out of a Danehill mare. Given 109 rating after beating Nebo at the July Meeting. Could be seen in Sunday’s National Stakes at The Curragh but Champagne, Beresford, Royal Lodge, Midddle Park and Dewhurst also pencilled in.

POLYDREAM Freddie Head’s youngster is unbeaten so far and his comfortable win in the rix Calvados at Deauville a fortnight or so back came at the expense of 10 (yes TEN) previous winners. Cheveley Park Stakes entry (Newmarket, Saturday, September 30)

PURSER Herald of a plethora of John Gosden juveniles due out this autumn, made a fine start at Newbury under a fine ride by Ryan Moore but not such great support from the saddle when Frankie Dettori steered him into the ruck behind Masar (rated 108) in the Solario at Sandown last week.

The winner had finished third to Ballydoyle’s September (rated 101) in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. Purser goes for the Royal Lodge Stakes (Newmarket, Saturday, September 30)

SANDS OF MALI This Richard Fahey colt is close on Expert Eye with a 116 rating after winning the Gimcrack with the benchmark Cardsharp three and threequarter lengths in third. Coventry runner-up, Headway, was fourth and Nebo (runner-up to both Gustav Klimt and Barraquero) only sixth.

Entered for the Middle Park (Newmarket, Saturday September 30) but not bred to be exploited as a two-year-old.

SAXON WARRIOR Out of Ballydoyle’s 1,000 Guineas third Maybe, and closely related to Oaks winner Dancing Rain. Finished clear of biggish field for a maiden at The Curragh at the end of August, given plenty to do but then quickened to go clear.

Saturday Leopardstown Group-3 entry but may wait for Beresford (Naas, Saturday, September 24) or Royal Podge (Newmarket, Saturday September 30)

THE PENTAGON Impressive at Leopardstown in July, and already touted for next year’s Derby, he could run for Aidan O’Brien in the National Stakes on Sunday, the Beresford two weeks later or the Royal Lodge Stakes on his way to the Dewhurst next month.

BLOOMING ORTIZ KEMPTON BANKER

3.10 Chepstow Majboor looks a good bet to go 321 after his Salisbury placed efforts. It was good to soft (as today) on his debut when he finished third to Yabrave and then followed that up finishing second to Killay in a bigger field. That came over a similar trip as today and the Ffrench Davis trained runner should have the measure of the grey Katheefa who is not as certain to be suited by either the trip or ground conditions.

The filly Cherished looks best of the remainder. She was staying on quite well when third over six furlongs at Windsor last time out and should be suited by the extra trip today.

3.30 Southwell Jumps racing at Southwell today and in this competitive handicap hurdle I like the look of Doubly Clever.

The five-year-old ran a good race at Worcester last time out to take second behind Mile House and a repetition of that effort should be enough here, despite being a pound higher in the weights.

The top weight and likely favourite Curious Carlos put in a good effort at Newton Abbot last time out but I feel this two and a half mile trip stretches his stamina and his better form is over a shorter trip.

6.55 Kempton Ortiz, by the emergent sire Havana Gold, carries the colours of Limato, who made a winning debut on this course, setting himself up for five wins in a row as a juvenile.

Ortiz, herself, was too green first time out at Windsor but, given six weeks to find herself, has absolutely bloomed at home, winning her gallops with well-regarded stablemates. Get on early while she’s odds against.
