I love being a sports punter as I am always discovering something new, and last week it was the turn of the Crystal Palace diet. As I mentioned last week, my friend Mick got me some tickets to take my boys to the match versus Burnley at Selhurst Park and as you do, I had a bigger bet than originally intended on the home team who had won their last five games and looked a steal on BETDAQ where I mopped up all the 2.4 I could find – very generous in my opinion pre kick off. Tablet and smartphone at the ready I sat back to enjoy the game but within 29 minutes the home team (I hasten to add I am an Everton supporter) were 0-2 down and I could not get out if I wanted to despite a quick look at the BETDAQ prices! The crowd went quiet, and I was a shade paler but by half time they were only 1-2 down and in with a shout (I hoped). By the 75th minute “we” were 4-2 up and I was counting all my winnings though an 81st minute goal for Burnley made it 4-3 and left me sweating pounds off until the final whistle went and I knew the bet was landed!
When I have a good week I have to tell you, but I am also quite aware that invariably means a bad week straight after (as if the gambling Gods like to put me in my place), but facts are facts and we landed our 5.77/1 accumulator on the football, a 2.1 win single on the football, 2.1 win double on the Rugby union, and a were part of a good gamble on Ghurair who was available at 4.8 on BETDAQ early Saturday morning and returned about the 2.8 mark, so what more can I add? Fact is my BETDAQ holiday funds is well and truly on the way for another sports outing to warmer climes, but the big question is, can we add to that this weekend I wonder?
No premiership football is a bad start as far as I am concerned but we do have some Internationals to watch though how many can be considered value betting opportunities is a different matter. An accumulator of short priced options could be the fun way I suppose but I am quite aware one banana skin dumps the whole bet but then again the 3.0 about a Rooney hat trick was the next nearest I could find to value and that is in the lap of the Gods as to whether or not the manager leaves him on the pitch that long? No, I would rather look for a silly bet instead and suggest a point accumulator on the big boys when they play the football minnows – surely that must be right?
England have to top the list at home with a sell out crowd against San Marino and even at 1.08 on BETDAQ we need a starting point, and I will very quickly add the Czech Republic at 1.15 who should be too experienced and powerful for lowly Malta. Sweden (1.2 BETDAQ) should beat the Faroe Islands, Spain should win in Belarus (1.25), Germany could be too strong for a Republic Of Ireland side who will miss the injured Robbie Keane (1.55 on BETDAQ), Slovenia ought to beat Cyprus (1.6 BETDAQ), Canada ought to see off Cuba (1.3) and lastly Mexico can win in Guyana to round things off even at the lowly price of 1.22, all in all making up an eight team accumulator that really ought to be landed.
Other sports are a little thin on the ground (well, ones I have a clue about are), or the odds are pointless – so we may have to off the radar a little bit! I do watch the TV sports programmes whenever possible, and a throw away comment about the World Cup 2014 caught my attention. As many have mentioned, the Premier League is awash with Belgians these days with the likes of Kompany, Vermaelen, Dembele, Fellaini, Mirallas, Hazard, and Lukaku to name but seven, all world class and all young enough to get better over the next two years. 35.0 on BETDAQ is tempting to a small stake at this stage, and if they qualify as I expect with a squad like that, then we can lay the bet back off at a lower stake later and build in a guaranteed profit.
Although we have to wait a week for what seems likely to be a farewell appearance by the legendary Frankel, we still have some top quality action to look forward to from Newmarket this weekend and I have been scouring the internet for information. It seems Newmarket trainer Marco Botti opened his doors to the media on Monday morning, primarily to see his top two year old Moohaajim who runs in the Middle Park Stakes on Saturday over six furlongs.
It seems as if jockey Adam Kirby had the choice to ride the Mill reef winner or main market rival Reckless Abandon and picked the son of Cape Cross, and if that isn’t a decent sized hint then I don’t know what is?
Finally, Idler certainly doesn’t owe me anything personally having won four races at odds of 5.0, 9.5, 5.5, and 11.0 (or thereabouts), but can he go in again in the 3.45pm at York I wonder? Fact is he has gone up twenty-five pounds since his first win so nothing will be easy any more, but dropped back to six furlongs in the 3.45pm at York (he failed to get home over seven on softer ground last time out), I am hoping the brilliant Silvestre De Sousa can make all on him here and land yet another prize for him – and us!
