The oft-repeated phrase, ‘there is no easy game in international football’, surely doesn’t apply to tonight’s match between England and San Marino at Wembley. The visitors have only won one game in their 114-match history and that was against fellow minnows Liechtenstein. The Sammarinese haven’t scored in their last 19 competitive games and their coach has already conceded defeat saying, ‘it’s just by how many.’
The England team will be licking their lips at getting in amongst the goals and in the only two games England have played San Marino before they thumped 13 past them. But San Marino striker Davide Gualtieri’s goal inside nine seconds in the 1993 game between the sides is still the fastest goal in a World Cup match of any description.
However, layers don’t fancy them to get on the scoresheet later and both teams to score is around 5.7 on BETDAQ. It really should be a question of how many for England and with a few players out through suspension or injury there will be a lot of faces trying to make an impression ahead of the more difficult trip to Poland next Tuesday.
