We welcome back THE BETDAQ PUNTER this week.
He looks back on his punting week on BETDAQ on a day-by-day basis – this is followed by his bets of the week….
This week he is recommending bets on the football, golf and racing.
Friday
Still basking in the new found riches from a big priced winner Thursday, I decided not to give too much of my profits back to the layers today and to be ultra picky with my Cheltenham bets (for a change). Dynaste was always a very classy hurdler (even I knew that), and was once considered a serious challenger to the great Big Buck’s but rather lost his way, and I hoped fences may well rekindle all his old enthusiasm. A little 3.0 on BETDAQ early doors was snapped up by yours truly and he obliged with his head in his chest and looks one for any ten to follow lists you maybe be putting together. Being greedy, I did have some of my winnings on Kid Cassidy who was the talk of the TV for the Nicky Henderson team, but I now regret listening as he trailed in fifth making the 6.5 I stole on BETDAQ excellent value (he returned the 9/2 joint favourite), but ultimately worthless – time to shut up shop for the day.
Saturday
I was 100% correct in leaving the Rugby Union alone on a disastrous day for me and a profitable one for the BETDAQ layers I suppose? Wales losing to Samoa was the biggest shock but so what if you don’t see it coming, though I did kick myself for failing to back Australia to beat England – if ever a team are up for the battle it’s them against us regardless of the sport! As for the football, least said soonest mended, and those of you who saw West Bromwich Albion beating Chelsea are better than me and most pundits, though it was all the more frustrating with my two “outsiders” of Crystal Palace and Watford both winning fairly comfortably but then there is always next week I suppose? Overnight rain screwed up most of my plans at Cheltenham though I did get a bit of 4.1 about Our Father in the novice chase, a bet I only placed after Dynaste won for the Pipe yard in a similar race on Friday. Hunt Ball took a walk in the market after the rains fell, but I failed to take much heed and backed him at 9.0, though if I had waited there was some 11.5 on BETDAQ – but as he failed to handle the softer ground and was pulled up, it didn’t really matter!
Sunday
Much as I like a rest day on a Sunday, Cheltenham pulled at my heart strings (well BETDAQ account strings), and I had a couple of bets and to be fair, that worked out just fine. A certain website I follow had put up two horses on the day so I backed them both in singles and a win double on BETDAQ and sat back to watch both the racing and the football. It was so obvious that Fulham would thrash Sunderland that I did not have a punt at the poor odds (that was lucky!), and waited for Fox Run to win the novice hurdle and keep his 100% record. 5.5 was taken (SP 4/1) but sadly the horse seemed oblivious to my shouting at the television and disappointed back in sixth, sinking my single and my double in one race. Deciding against chasing losses for a change, I let the other single ride as it was and watched with a beaming smile as Irish raider Anonis took the bumper with ease at a starting price of 25/1, but 55.0 on BETDAQ when I placed my bet! No, it wasn’t a big sum (more’s the pity), but I don’t get many winners at those sort of prices and suspect I will have to wait a long while until the next one.
Monday
Does anyone else struggle to cope with the early week action after the feast at the weekend? Precious little quality football, rubbish racing, enough to make you pull your hair out, but at least I could have a decent sized bet on West Ham United to see off Stoke in the evening kick off. Like an idiot I decided they were the proverbial good thing and put on a sizeable amount of my earlier winnings only to see them fall behind to a team who seem to me to have forgotten how to play football – is there no justice in this world or am I just talking through my wallet lol? Fact is I got some 1.8 and was feeling pretty smug but after a 1-1 draw I waved goodbye to my cash but am still in profit for the week and then some, so no use crying for a change. On the bright side, our bet on the First Test between India and England when laying the draw at 2.88 on BETDAQ came good – the only decent return from a frustrating weekend.
Tuesday
Rubbish racing pointed me toward Champions League football, but the accumulators can wait until the weekend, so just a few singles for me tonight. Three small bets seemed the sensible way forward with Manchester United overpriced at 3.8 on BETDAQ despite being away to Galatasaray, Chelsea in a similar scenario at 4.7 with BETDAQ away to Juventus, and lastly Celtic at 7.8 on BETDAQ away to Benfica – after all, if they can beat Barcelona then all things are possible and one correct prediction will see me make a profit so why not? The answer, as you all know, was that all three lost and lost convincingly to the extend that Chelsea are looking for another new manager as I speak – I wonder how much you would have made on BETDAQ if you just backed whoever it may be as the next manager to leave his post?
Wednesday
Not quite sulking but not far off it this afternoon as I had a couple of fancies at Warwick only for overnight rain to see the racing abandoned along with most of the racing on Thursday as well. Having lost on the football last night I am not going in again, and will show the patience and resolve to give it a miss and look for options tomorrow instead.
Thursday
Looking through the early declarations for the weekend took up a lot of my time with Haydock on Saturday putting on some class action well worth punting on but more of that later. I did get my fingers burnt when backing Uxizandre at Market Rasen having read how much trainer Alan King thought of him. but he was beaten at odds of 1.6 on BETDAQ (1.5 SP), by stable companion The Mumper (10.5)! His handler seemed as surprised as us punters, and as I have never subscribed to conspiracy theories, I will mark it down as one of those things and note that the stable seem in good form ahead of the weekend.
Conclusions:
Bet of the week – 55.0 the Win with BETDAQ on Irish raider Anonis (SP 26.0) – I know it can’t last, you know it can’t last, but let’s make hay while the sun shines!
Disaster of the week – Football full stop! How could Chelsea and Manchester United lose, almost unheard of and very costly (and not just to me)?
THIS WEEKEND…..
Football bloomin football (and that was the censored version) need to kick off our weekend bets (pun intended), and it’s about time they came good instead of “close but no cigar”. This week I think it may be sensible to look for less selections at better prices and can someone start by telling me why West Bromwich Albion are as big as 3.2 with BETDAQ to win away at Sunderland? Last weekend they beat Chelsea and did so with some style while Sunderland have had trouble scoring until last weekend, and at the price, this smells like good value to me.
Crystal Palace sit proudly at the top of the Championship and may well be too good for Leeds at BETDAQ odds of 2.6, while Watford are on a bit of an unnoticed roll of late and certainly look overpriced at 3.85 to win away at Blackpool though that could be the closest of the three games mentioned. After backing them in doubles and a treble I will add Manchester United (1.25) to finish the short tenure of Mark Hughes at Queens Park Rangers, and Cardiff (2.35 to win at Barnsley) just in case we can pull off an accumulator as well, and then move on to another sport.
Golf is not my thing though there is a big end of season tournament going on in Dubai, but has all the value already gone I wonder? Luke Donald looks good but at 5.2 forget it, and even though he only had a steady first round, I will weight in worth a small each way bet on Ian Poulter at a massive 120.0 the win and 11.5 the pale (top five finish) could still be value, after all, we are only one round in? He likes the course and has played well here in the past (I read that somewhere, obviously!), and although I would have preferred a better first round than level par, if he had done well, we would not be looking at the sort of price.
Finally, I can never bring myself to leave without at least one small punt on the horses, and a short priced double could be the best way forward? Long Run is yet to capture the imagination of the betting public for some unknown reason, but he is the best staying chaser in training at this moment in time, and the 2.6 on BETDAQ is tempting though we will have to take his fitness on trust ahead of his seasonal return at Haydock. Nicky Henderson is no fool and would not take the risk of sending him to the track unfit, and although he is bound to improve for the run, he is the class act if his jumping holds up that is. For the double, Oscar Whisky is a class act at around the two and a half mile mark, and he should be way too good for his rivals at Ascot in the 2.45pm and should boost any winning at BETDAQ odds of 1.99.
This week’s suggested bets (all prices with BETDAQ and correct at the time of writing):
Weekend Football
1pt Win doubles and a 1pt win treble: West Bromwich Albion (3.2), Crystal Palace (2.6) and Watford (3.85).

Golf – DP World tour Championship Dubai
Half point win (120.0), half point place (11.0) Ian Poulter
Horse racing Saturday
1pt Win double Oscar Whisky (1.99) 2.45 Ascot and Long Run (2.6) 3.05 Haydock.
