We welcome back THE BETDAQ PUNTER this week.

He looks back at his week on BETDAQ and looks ahead to this weekend.

This week he is recommending bets on the football, racing and NFL.

Friday

This weather is beginning to grind everybody down and added to a dose of man flu, I had my excuses for losing already in advance. Broadbackbob was expected to win the first at Cheltenham so I had a chunk on at 2.3 with BETDAQ (beating the SP of 2.2), but the heavy ground seemed to affect his jumping and he tried to uproot more fences than he cleared. The writing was on the wall a long way out and he eventually plodded home a well-beaten fourth, weighed down by my cash, or so it seemed. A little win and place on Dan Breen paid most of my losses back (16.0 the win and 4.8 the place on BETDAQ) as he ran well to finish in third place for the David Pipe yard, well beaten but getting in to the places which is all I cared about. Time to pull stumps on the day and try a new way to make money tomorrow!

Saturday

“Odds on Starting Price” was my theory for this Saturday – back them all, doubling the stake after each loser and then see what happens. Small stakes were needed as this was a newish venture and eight bets later I checked my BETDAQ account to find a nice little profit thank you very much after eight bets saw five winners at odds of 2/9, 1/5, 4/6, 10/11, and 5/6 but putting in a request saw me nick a little at 1.3, 1.25, 1.8, 2.1, and 2.0 respectively – you can keep Starting Price thank you very much!

Naturally profits on the racing were more than eaten up by the disaster that was the football, and even the Mayans would never have predicted Aston Villa destroying Liverpool at Anfield. With Hull failing to win, Watford and Cardiff ditto and a list of losing options as long as your arm, I cannot remember a more disastrous day and that comes from an Everton fan.

Sunday

I usually make Sunday a quiet day but my new found odds on system seemed worthy of another go, and my American football bets were on for the evening as well. Only seven short priced jollies to go to work with and with four winners at 1.25, 2.1, 1.9, 2.0, it was more break even than plan a holiday, but still worth keeping in the locker to fill those rainy afternoons and at least it kept me away from the football which seemed sure to be costly. The American Football was too late for me to keep awake for but two relatively easy wins at BETDAQ prices of 1.7 and 1.6 in a double, a small but welcomed 2.72 pay out will add a few small gifts under the tree.

Monday

Not a good start to the day as the cricket petered out in to a draw, which I had laid last weekend much to my instant regret. With Arsenal blowing hot and cold I had no intention of getting involved in their game with Reading (worth watching, but not speculating in), so back to the horses for me. While the wheel doesn’t need reinventing I will stick with my new system, and with five winners form six bets I may be on to something. To be fair, there isn’t a lot of pride in finding winners at 1.75, 1.8, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.1 but they are helping to regroup after the football though surely it is only a matter of time before it all goes horribly wrong?

Tuesday

I wish I was that good with my other predictions! Four odds on shots all lost on Tuesday though for the first time in living memory I was still messing with small stakes, which leaves me up overall and willing to try again tomorrow! I did have a big bet (well, by my standards) on Rangers at odds of 1.1 to beat Annan in the Scottish Third Division, which ended 3-0, but short prices are beginning to bore me, profitable or not, so tomorrow looks likely to be a bit more adventurous.

Wednesday

I lied! With all the hype about travelling issues for Chelsea, the 1.7 about them on BETDAQ in the morning was just stupid, and odds on or not, it had to be taken. When they went 1-0 down to Leeds I did think “here we go again”, but a 1-5 final score line put me at my ease and left the BETDAQ account that little bit better off. As a warm weather sort of person I still watch horses from the flat making their debuts over hurdles and this afternoon I backed Poet, who duly hacked up at Newbury and at the rewarding BETDAQ price of 4.3 – thank you all you layers. He was good enough to compete at Listed and Group class on the flat, and as he is trained by Clive Cox (whose landlord is ex jumps jockey John Francome), it seemed pretty likely he would have been well schooled and it felt like taking candy from a baby, though to be fair it wasn’t much of a race.

Thursday

Exeter abandoned, Downpatrick abandoned (and I had a horse I liked there for a change), leaving the all-weather plus Towcester to keep me happy. Not a lot seemed worth getting involved in to be honest (so I didn’t), and with no football in the UK that I could find, a day off ensued – which is pretty rare for me I can tell you! What I will do is spend any spare time left looking for some profit over the weekend – maybe some of the football will actually go to form for a change!

Conclusions:

Bet of the week – A short priced win double on the American Football was easily landed – but that was about it!
Disaster of the week
– Football, especially Liverpool losing at Anfield – how could they let me down like that?!

THIS WEEKEND…..

The rain keeps on pouring down and I am beginning to wonder if any racing other than the all-weather will survive? As no one will give me odds on the end of the World on Friday I can only assume Saturday will be happening after all, in which case back to the soccer we must go in the hope of a return to something like normality. With the odds on accumulator leaving me looking even more stupid than normal last week I will give them a miss for once (watch them all win now!), and look for some value instead, but to smaller stakes to reduce the risk factor. Newcastle are not exactly firing on all cylinders which may mean Queens Park Rangers and the miracle working Harry Redknapp could be a spot of value, though I am not for a moment claiming life will be easy. He does have a good squad at his disposal which seems to have been forgotten, and if they can continue improving then the 4.1 on BETDAQ for the away win could be seen as over generous? Norwich are another relatively unfashionable team who are quietly going about their business, unbeaten in their last ten games. Grant Holt is a doubt through injury which may be why they are as big as 4.3 to win at West Bromwich Albion, but again they still look as if they represent good value. Lastly, I am hoping last week’s draw with Fleetwood was just a blip for Gillingham, in which case they ought to win at York and odds of 2.4 seems to make them worth adding in for three small doubles and a treble for the fun of it and NOT as a deadly serious bet.

American football served me well last week (well, in comparison?), so now I think I am some kind of expert? Actually, I haven’t a clue, but that didn’t stop me last week, so I thought we should have another go this weekend. Adding all the short priced options together could be fun so how about a one point accumulator on Atlanta Falcons (1.55), Miami Dolphins (1.55), Pittsburgh Steelers (1.5), Indianapolis Colts (1.4), Houston Texans (1.35), New England Patriots (1.1), and Carolina Panthers (1.3), for a 9.74 accumulator at the best BETDAQ prices I can find which are ALL better than I could get with any bookmaker.

As for the horses, well I can’t find a winner for love nor money but have read on the internet that although Petit Robin has top weight and will race with a claimer on board to reduce his burden, he has returned to the Nicky Henderson yard in fine fettle after winning at Sandown and could run in to a place in the big Ascot hurdle on Saturday at odds of 23.0 the win and 6.1 the place on BETDAQ. It is not an easy race to second-guess and my confidence is at an all time low, but at the odds a small bet could yet pay off – you never know your luck!

This week’s suggested bets (all prices with BETDAQ and correct at the time of writing):

Weekend Football
