BIG BASH FINAL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the Big Bash Final between Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

And then there were two! It’s Big Bash Final time on Friday morning on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers meet again. This is the ideal final in my opinion as these two looked like the two best teams in the competition and they also finished first and second in the table too. Perth Scorchers have looked stronger it has to be said, and they have the confident of winning the Qualifier too. It’s a little sense of deja vu here as we return to Melbourne Docklands as the sides meet again.

Despite crowds falling a lot this summer in the Big Bash, we have had an excellent run in the Playoffs. There’s been plenty of drama, and perhaps the crowds will bounce back next summer as Australian won’t be hosting the Ashes and hopefully we won’t have any Covid19 issues. Sydney Sixers hit a boundary off the final ball to win the Knockout against Adelaide Strikers, along with a six before that – you can’t get any more dramatic than that. While Perth Scorchers have had an easy run to be honest. They comfortably beat Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier, topped the table with no stress and now they face a side they have already beaten a few days ago.

You have to admit there’s a lot in favour of Perth Scorchers here. However, let’s not forget that Sydney Sixers are going for three Big Bash titles in a row here. They know what it takes to win in the big moments, and even when they find themselves in trouble they manage to get out of it – the game against Adelaide Strikers highlights that! I know we landed our bet on Sydney Sixers, but don’t underestimate what a good win that was as Adelaide Strikers finished the season in top form. This should be a cracker to be honest, it should be an excellent game to sit back and enjoy.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’ve seen more cricket than usual here this season, helped by the Big Bash opting for a Melbourne hub with the Covid19 outbreak. Scoring has been very good, Perth Scorchers scored 189/3 here in the Qualifier but Hobart Hurricanes also scored 182/5 recently. When sides have fallen short here, the way the score has been chased down suggests 180ish is par. Perth Scorchers chased 151/8 in 16.5 overs for example and Melbourne Stars chased 122/7 in 14.3 overs. Other scores have been 117/6, 209/7 and 206/5 twice (which is remarkably random!) Perth Scorchers have played four games here this season, and won four times – all impressively too.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s a sign of how good Perth Scorchers have been this season that they are trading as short as 1.47 here. This is a tricky situation, because on balance you would feel Perth Scorchers should win, but from a betting point of view I feel that the 1.47 is just too short and the value bet is Sydney Sixers. I fully accept Perth Scorchers have been superb, beat Sydney Sixers easily in the Qualifier and have a great record here but I expect this game to be closer than the odds. I know the Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers in dramatic fashion but let’s not forget that was a very tough match against an in-form side. They are going for three titles in a row and they won’t freeze in the big moments here. I’d have Perth a little higher in the market and the Sixers are the value in my book. Hopefully we can continue the 100% win rate in the Playoffs!

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Both sides are solid with the bat and ball, and I wouldn’t be afraid of support both at certain moments – there’s no reason not to as the market chops around. I do feel the biggest edge in-running here will be batting first however, batting has looked good here and that has allowed the side batting first to basically set a score out of reach for the chasing side. I know that also brings pressure because when they fall short the scores have been chased down so easily, but both batting units are strong I would expect the side batting first to have an advantage. If that turns out to be Sydney Sixers, we might just have a game a lot closer than the odds suggest. Hopefully we have an exciting final!
