MATCH OVERVIEW:
What an excellent series this will be. Australia arrive to England with a full squad and fire in their belly after an extended break. England have been busy all summer with the visits of West Indies, Ireland and Pakistan; however they now have all their focus on Australia. Previously England had two squads – the Test squad and the One Day squad – now they come together and they are at full strength (minus injuries and players out for personal reasons of course).
We can expect a very high quality series, and hopefully we see more cricket at the Rose Bowl than we did with the visit of Pakistan! Australia have been based here since they arrived and had a warm-up game where Maxwell scored 100, Warner got a 30, Stoinis took four wickets and scored 87. That was a 50 over game, and ironically they were supposed to have another but that got rained off too. The Rose Bowl isn’t having much luck this summer!
Australia look at full strength and this should be an excellent test for the home side. You’d have to expect to see Archer and Buttler come into the starting XI now they are available and England have a number of bowling options to choose from. The pressure is on to get those decisions right.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
You’d have to expect a good wicket here, although the reality is we haven’t seen much cricket. The 1st T20 between England and Pakistan was rained off with England 131/6 after 16.1 overs, while we didn’t see much cricket over the two Tests here either. We only managed five innings over the two Tests and the light issues were so bad, they will change the cricket laws. They actually started early in England afterwards and that will change the future of cricket too.
The pitch looked very good for batting when Ireland played England in three ODI’s here. Ireland didn’t play well in the opening two games but they were able to chase 328 in the third ODI. I’d expect 175+ first innings based on the limited cricket we’ve seen. We do have some weather worries, of course it wouldn’t be the Rose Bowl without them! However, it looks like the rain will clear away by the start time so fingers crossed we can get a full game and we don’t see any farcical scenes like we did in the Pakistan games.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Supporting Pakistan at value odds paid off in the last series as they won the 3rd T20 at odds of 2.66. Clearly England improve here with the additions to the squad, but I still feel it’s worth backing Australia at the odds here. At 2.14 they look the value in what should be a very 50/50 game. I take on board that this is their first fixture in quite a while but they have had plenty of time to prepare at the Rose Bowl and some of their stars performed well in the warm-up game. England still have issues bowling for me, although granted they are eased with Archer coming in. Nevertheless, Australia at the odds for me in another very close game.
The Edge Says:
Two points win Australia to beat England at 2.14 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
At the moment I only have the long range forecast to go off, but it looks like we’ll see rain at the Rose Bowl in the afternoon but it also looks like it will clear away before the game starts. It might linger though and you’ll only know that looking at the radar as we approach the start time. That’s definitely a starting point though because the dynamic changes with overs lost. The toss is a tough decisions – do you bat first because the ball might be a little wet or do you chase because there’s a chance it could be a shortened game?
Maxwell scored 100 in the 50 over warm-up game and with him in good form, he will move the market quickly. England haven’t been great under pressure with the ball, and aside from Archer I wouldn’t be keen trading them when bowling. In the England side, Morgan and Ali were the stars against Pakistan but Australia will have better bowling options. I can see Mitchell Starc playing very well.
