BOY STAR SEAN IS SHEER POETRY FOR WINNER-A-DAY DAQMAN: One or two mistakes to make his followers frown since Friday when Daqman won the Irish Cambridgeshire with Laughifyouwant (WON 14-1) but he seems back in rhyme and reason with a winner a day since Sunday, Ayr Poet (WON 11-10) keeping up the momentum yesterday and landing the nap under a smooth ride from the in-form apprentice Sean Kirrane at Hamilton.

Tuesday
✔️ WON 11-10 AYR POET (nap)

Monday
✔️ WON 4-1 BAHRAIN PRIDE

Sunday
✔️ WON 7-2 URBAN ARTIST

TWO-YEAR-OLD TESTS REVEALED AS KEY TO CLASSIC RACES: You’ve probably already seen the 2021 Guineas winner but you don’t know it; or you’ll see him in the next few weeks as he blossoms in the autumn. Today Daqman reveals the races which are key Classic indicators, what’s won so far and what’s to come.

BOLGER’S BOYS BEING IGNORED

Year on year the same trials win the Classics. I’m talking about two-year-old tests from which just five races have emerged as key to the 2,000 Guineas.

Though Aidan O’Brien has landed two already, Jim Bolger has recently struck back with winners at 28-1 and 66-1.

Bolger’s winners, Mac Swiney and New Treasure, don’t even figure near the front of the (far too) early betting on the 2,000 Guineas of 2021.

It simply won’t be believed that Mac Swiney won the first of the leading trials, the Curragh Futurity on August 22nd.

But it was proved no fluke when New Treasure followed up for the stable by taking another Group race of talented two-year-olds.

Again, there was hardly a murmur among the big-name pundits, who preferred to talk up Cadillac, second in the Futurity, and Coulthard, third behind New Treasure. Or stay silent altogether.

Yet the Futuritys of England and Ireland are among the top four trials, the Doncaster race beating the Dewhurst, as key races on the CVs of subsequent Guineas and Derby winners in the last decade.

O’Brien won the Tyros Stakes which, like the Dewhurst and the National Stakes, is among the best guides to the Classics.

The only other past or future two-year-old tests to have yielded Classic results in the decade are the Chesham Stakes, Coventry, Beresford and Royal Lodge but with only one each.

WHERE THE CLASSIC WINNERS CAME FROM

1 Futurity Stakes/Trophy (run Doncaster, Newcastle): Kameko 2019, won 2,000 Guineas; Magna Grecia 2018, won 2,000 Guineas; Saxon Warrior 2017, won 2,000 Guineas; Camelot 2011, won 2,000 Guineas, Derby.

2 Dewhurst Stakes Churchill 2016, won 2,000 Guineas; Dawn Approach 2012, won 2,000 Guineas; Frankel 2010, won 2,000 Guineas.

2 National Stakes Churchill 2016, won 2,000 Guineas; Gleneagles 2014, won 2,000 Guineas; Dawn Approach 2012, won 2,000 Guineas.

Next: The strange case of the Epsom Derby

HOLD ALL BETS

2.00 Bath Holdenhurst could be the answer to the opener at Bath. The Bill Turner trained runner is a previous course and distance winner which is always a positive over this quirky circuit.

The grey was only narrowly beaten at Chepstow last time out on soft ground but is versatile ground wise and, if anything, better on a quicker surface.

Chief danger could come from David’s Beauty – the mare is in really good form, winning two of her last three, but they both came over five furlongs at Chepstow and this longer trip may just stretch her stamina.

BELOVED NAP

⭕ 3.10 Lingfield the progressive Immortal Beloved could be the answer to the long distance handicap at Lingfield.

The Charlie Fellowes trained runner has improved in both her starts since finishing a well beaten 6th of 8 at Newmarket on debut.

She went on to finish a close second at Haydock and then stayed on nicely over 1m 6f at Sandown to beat the odds-on Thai Power.

This longer trip looks perfect and she faces an easier task here than a York handicap on Sunday for which she also holds an entry.

Padleyourowncanoe is back on the flat having sustained a leg injury in his latest jumps race at Bangor. He was also a beaten favourite when last seen on the flat when going off favourite at Newcastle and might be a watching project today.

Of more interest is Mr Chua who looks worth another try over this trip having stayed on well to win at Chester last time out.

THREE IS THIRD BET

⭕ 6.30 Hexham For Three is 2-2 at Hexham and also has a good record under Brian Hughes and the combination might be able to strike again off what could be a good handicap mark.

He looks more progressive than some of his rivals including Calvinist who was never going a yard at Sedgefield last week and Methodtothemadness whose only career success has come on soft ground and she is having her first start tonight since wind surgery.
