THE EDGE: The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings v Lucknow Super Giants with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Chennai Super Kings v Lucknow Super Giants
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have another massive clash at the IPL on Betdaq Betting Exchange as Chennai Super Kings host Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. After the games over the weekend, this is a huge game for these two. Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad take up the top three spots and they all look very strong this season too – next come these two sides with four wins from seven games. You wouldn’t be surprised to see both sides reach the playoffs but given we have so much quality at the top of the table this becomes a massive game.
CSK will be delighted to have home advantage, but Lucknow have very similar conditions at their home ground. If anything, scoring looks a little more tricky at Lucknow this season! However both Lucknow and Chennai have a reputation for scoring down as the tournament goes on; that’s why CSK are packed with spinners. The way the schedule has worked out, this is essentially become a home and away clash given the sides played in Lucknow on Friday! That’s pretty rare for the IPL in fairness; we usually see the fixtures spaced out better – we see it a lot in the likes of the Big Bash in Australia for example.
Lucknow won easily on Friday, they chased down the 176/6 by CSK with only two wickets down with an over to spare. That was a very good batting performance given 176 isn’t a bad score in Lucknow. CSK were struggling but MS Dhoni put on a show at the death with 28 runs from only 9 balls – maybe he should have come in earlier! The top two finally fired together for Lucknow, it will be interesting to see can they do the same here.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
CSK have an incredible record at Chennai, and they have yet to lose here this season. We actually have plenty of action to come here as we’ll see a qualifier and the Final here too. Conditions have been reasonably good for batting so far, but you would expect that to change as the tournament goes on given the history of this ground. The first inning scores have been 173/6 (chased), 206/6 (won) and 137/9 (chased). The 206 game was won by 63 runs, so I wouldn’t go into this game expecting big runs. To be honest, after the 137 I’d keep a very open mind here – conditions should start to bring low scores here soon – unless we have a heavy dew of course.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Lucknow were very much on top on Friday, and obviously things change a little with the change in ground but Lucknow and Chennai have been pretty similar this far. You’d probably put both grounds into the same bracket really, scoring and conditions wise. The openers fired for Lucknow on Friday and that is absolutely key – they have the best opening partnership in the IPL when they get going. I know CSK have an excellent home record and I’m going to keep stakes limited for that reason, but the 2.22 on Lucknow looks good value here. I just expect a closer game than those odds suggest after seeing them clash on Friday.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I would spend the opening overs here trying to get an idea of what the wicket is going to play like. Just because we’ve had a reasonably big chase and a score of over 200 in the opening two games doesn’t mean the wicket will be flat for the tournament. Conditions do tend to get tough here as the tournament goes on, the 137 last time out would be something to look at. I’d expect the spinners to start to go well here in the next few games; that could easily start happening here too. If that’s the case, it’s generally better to bat first but batting can be tricky so you might want to wait and support the bowlers in the second innings rather than the batters to move the market.
