IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s IPL game between Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders
MATCH OVERVIEW:
After week begins at the Indian Premier League on Monday, and we have plenty of drama left to enjoy on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. We’re at the stage of the tournament now when players are hoping for it to end if they aren’t doing well, while others are getting pumped for the battle for the Playoffs. We’re getting down to the business end now though and you have to say it’s been a fantastic tournament this season. I was a little worried the extra two teams would be overkill but they have fit in very well – the quality of cricket has been very good and most games have been enjoyable to watch.
We start the week with Mumbai Indians taking on KKR and these are two sides who will have some players counting down the days until the tournament ends as I mentioned above! KKR have been better than Mumbai, but with two wins in a row now Mumbai are heading in the right direction – they still sit bottom of the table – but a win here would probably mean they overtake KKR at some stage. It’s hard to put a finger on what’s gone wrong for KKR this season, I know their batting has let them down, but on paper it looks pretty good. I felt their bowling would win them more games, but it just hasn’t worked out this season. They have gone backwards without Eoin Morgan as captain, not forwards.
We all know Mumbai have had a terrible season, they didn’t do well at the auction and things just went badly from there. At least they have managed two wins now after eight straight losses and all they can do is finish the tournament strongly. They’ve been playing for pride only for a few weeks already now. Although a meaningless game in terms of the playoffs, this is a big game in the race to avoid the wooden spoon!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back at the DY Patil Stadium today and that means it will be back-to-back games here after CSK played Delhi on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully that game went ahead after a Covid19 scare in the camp with a positive test. This ground hasn’t been kind to KKR – they have recorded the lowest first innings score here and lost both of their fixtures here. Mumbai can come into this game confident after beating Rajasthan here recently. We have had a range of scores here towards the start of the tournament, but we seem to have settled around the 150 to 160 mark as a par score. The chasing side won the last two games, and it has looked like the chasing side has had a little edge here over the last few games – we saw scores of 200+ early which are always hard to chase, but I don’t think there’s a question what you do at the toss here – you have to bowl.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Although Mumbai have been the whipping boys of the tournament this season, this is an interesting situation because after two wins in a row they will have their confidence back and it’s probably a good time to support them against a side like KKR. I wouldn’t be comfortable backing Mumbai against one of the better sides even with their turnaround in form, but this KKR side have been very poor. Their collapse at the weekend looked like a side who just wanted the tournament to finish – their batting hasn’t been good the whole tournament and now their confidence looks shot too. I’m keen to take on KKR at the moment until I see better signs from them, so Mumbai at 1.83 are worth backing in my view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
A few things to discuss here, and hopefully everything lines up in-running for us. As I said above, I think the side who bowls first will have a slight edge. I’m really hoping that is Mumbai because I’m very keen to take on this KKR batting line-up. With good bowling conditions first up, you fancy another very low score from KKR – however even if that doesn’t work out, I would be happy enough to support the KKR bowling in the first innings because their bowling has been their strongest point before switching onto Mumbai to defend a score (should they get a reasonable score). The reality is that we have two sides here who have struggled at times so I would keep stakes limited, but it seems a good time to be with Mumbai and against KKR at the moment.
