IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s IPL game between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Gujarat Titans with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Gujarat Titans
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Indian Premier League rolls into another week and we kick the action off on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Gujarat Titans at the DY Patil. Sunrisers Hyderabad would have been delighted to their first win of the tournament at the weekend over CSK and that slightly eases the pressure on them. Before that win they were sitting at the bottom of the table and after being so poor last season it was easy to see them struggling again. To be honest, I don’t think that win changes much – their squad still looks pretty poor on paper and it will still be a long season for them in my view.
It is a strange feeling when you look at the IPL table and see that Mumbai Indians and CSK are sitting in the bottom two. The two IPL giants have both lost their opening four games! As I said in the opening week, the auction didn’t go well for either side and they look weaker than usual. That has opened the door for new faces in the playoffs, and Gujarat Titans will be hoping to break into the playoffs in their opening season. They have started the tournament in superb form with three wins from three games, and as I said before their last game their squad looks very solid.
They have batted very well, and their bowling was very impressive against Delhi Capitals too. They have that confidence in their play now too – it was remarkable to see them hit two sixes off the final two balls against Punjab Kings to win their last game! You don’t see that very often! They have hit the ground running though, look like a good unit playing together and have the talent in their batting and bowling. I expect them to reach the playoffs.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We didn’t have any recent IPL history at this ground before this tournament started, but we’re building up the profile of the ground now. This will be the seventh game here and so far the ground has been pretty solid. I was definitely a little cagey after the opening games which saw scores of 205/2 chased down and then 128 nearly defended. But we have settled into a good range since then. I would suggest 170 is par from seeing the opening six games – any side scoring 170+ is well in the game, and if you don’t quite get there you have to bowl very well. The two scores of around 150 were chased quite easily – you need more to put pressure on the chasing side.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Although Sunrisers Hyderabad recorded their first win in their last game against CSK, I don’t see them following that up here. CSK look very poor this season, the auction wasn’t kind to them and they have multiple issues with batting and bowling. This will be a much tougher test for Sunrisers Hyderabad and I can see them coming up short. Although the batting has really fired for Gujarat Titans, their bowling looks fantastic on paper too. Any side with Rashid Khan is always going to do well, but the Gujarat explosive middle order will do very well against the Hyderabad bowling too. I can only see one winner here, and I’m happy to take the 1.71 on Gujarat.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Although we are building the profile of this ground, I am still going into games being a little cagey here. The scoring conditions seem to have settled, but we still have a big range. As I said above, around 170 looks par but we don’t have a huge data set to go off yet. There’s a couple of angles I’d like to play here – I definitely want to be with the Gujarat middle order and I wouldn’t mind sitting out of the market while their openers bat. If they are out quickly it only offers more value in my view, with most of the runs coming from the middle order. I’d be keen to support the Gujarat bowling against the Hyderabad batting too – so far at this ground there hasn’t been a major edge batting or bowling first, the biggest thing to look out for is dew because if we get a heavy dew it will be tough for the bowlers and the scores will go up.
