MATCH OVERVIEW:
And then we had two! After 60 games of excellent Big Bash action we’re down to the Final on Saturday morning UK time at the SCG. We should have an fantastic Final – these two finished first and second in the table and have been rock solid right throughout the tournament. Of course, it’s a quick repeat of the Qualifier at the Manuka Oval last Saturday when Sydney Sixers hammered the Perth Scorchers by nine wickets. After an impressive win in the Challenger, Perth will be hoping they perform better here!

I’m not surprised we have a pretty even market, but I do like the Sydney Sixers. They have been rock solid right throughout the tournament and they have beat the Perth Scorchers the last two times the sides have met. Perth won impressively at their home ground midway through the tournament; however they were very strong in their home conditions.
It was interesting that Perth had their best start to the tournament when they lost Roy at the top of the order. Livingstone was in superb touch, smashing 77 off 39 balls. Both sides will have to face tougher batting conditions here as the Manuka Oval was very good for batting, and early wickets will be absolutely key given the batting on display. For me the Sixers lower order has been the best in the tournament, and that’s a huge part of the reason they are here. We should have an excellent, high quality, Final to enjoy!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Thankfully we should get a game looking at the long-range forecast as we had rain during the Challenger on Thursday. We only lost two overs per side however. Because of Covid19 and Australian International cricket, we haven’t had any Big Bash cricket here to enjoy. Even though it’s the Sixers home ground; I wouldn’t say it’s a massive advantage given the fixture list this season. Perhaps they will have a little knowledge, but either side has the experience of conditions this year. The average score here last season was 166; however we did see three games with rain. We had a big range of scores too – 131 AO and 209/4 for example. The scores have been huge here going down the years; the average score batting first was 144 in 2018/2019, 143 in 2017/2018 and 150 in 2016/2017. Chasing might not be the best idea in a Final, but I wouldn’t mind it looking at the stats.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I expect a very close game, but for me Sydney Sixers are worth backing at 2.0 or bigger on the exchange – especially with 0% commission. Perth were very impressive last time out against Brisbane Heat but Brisbane have been pretty average this season. They had to chase very low totals to reach that stage and the Sixers will bowl much better. They have bowled very well to Perth the last twice they have met and with a rock-solid lower order I think they will cope better with the pressure. Clearly both sides have a lot of International talent who will cope with the situation, but the Sixers lower order looks perfect for a huge pressure Final.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
We both sides in great form and being the top two sides in the tournament, we should have a good game for trading. We should start at around 2.0 the pair too so that’s always a good starting point for trading. There aren’t many ground angles for me heading into this game because we haven’t had any cricket here in the tournament. From recent years I would bowl first, but most sides will want to bat first in a Final and I couldn’t blame them – it’s always good to have runs on the board in a big Final. I would take the first three overs to see what conditions are like; but I wouldn’t be afraid to support the chasing team if they needed around 160.
Early wickets will be key here, and if you see any movement with the new ball I would support the bowling team. Early wickets will be worth a lot of ticks given the talent. I wouldn’t mind be against the Perth lower order when batting, and I would be hugely supporting the Sixers lower order when I get the chance. They have been exceptional in this tournament, and with the Sixers having a slightly stronger bowling attack than Perth that should help too.
