THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s IPL clash between Delhi Capitals v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a Thursday double-header at the Indian Premier League on BETDAQ Betting Exchange this week. Punjab Kings meet Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game, while I’m going to focus on Delhi Capitals against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the afternoon. We’ve had another dramatic week in the IPL, but Delhi Capitals have been the major losers – they have lost their opening five games, and desperately need a win to stop the downward momentum.

It can be very hard in these franchise tournament to bounce back from a very poor start. Obviously players are professional, but of course there is an element of some players being here for the money and when the chance of winning or making it to the playoff games go they can easily switch off. In fairness, that’s less likely in the IPL compared to another other franchise league, but nevertheless Delhi need a win soon. KKR also need a win to keep in touch of the playoff race, they have only managed two wins from their opening five games which at the moment is off the pace.

KKR were involved in the most dramatic moment of the IPL this year with five sixes off the final five balls to beat Gujarat Titans! Since then they have lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, which are two pretty average sides this season. Delhi have huge issues though, when their batting has fired against Mumbai Indians their bowling let them down. At the start of the tournament, their batting was very poor. They need to turn things around, and it isn’t obvious how.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the third game at Delhi where conditions have looked good for batting. The first inning scores have been 162/8 and 172 all out with both scores chased down. It must be noted that Delhi have batted first twice, and they have had such a poor start perhaps if KKR bat first we might see a higher score than the first two games. At the moment you’d have to be looking for 180ish batting first here, especially given the bowling concerns for both sides.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We should have a close game here, but it’s not a surprise to see KKR the favourites at 1.88. I still feel they offer a shade of value at those odds – Delhi haven’t got going at this IPL so far. I thought their South African players would give them a boost when they arrived but that hasn’t been the case. The batting has been the major worry though, failing to chase down 174/6 at Bangalore has been highlighted afterwards as a very poor performance with so many scores of 200+ there this season. Warner needs to get them off to a good start, but he looks in poor touch and KKR can out-bat them here.

The Edge Says:
One point win Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Delhi Capitals at 1.88 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

This will be a somewhat awkward game for trading in-running in my opinion because we should have decent batting conditions, but you wouldn’t fully trust either batting side. I would definitely lean towards KKR with the bat though – their batting has been pretty good and their bowling has been the weakness. For Delhi, they haven’t batted or bowled well but you’d probably want to take on their bowling more given scoring has been good here. David Warner will be worth plenty of ticks, and he definitely looks worth taking on at the top of the order.
