Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL rolls on as we head to Chennai on Tuesday for Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! It’s fair to say that these two sides have had a very difficult start to the season, and you’d have to call this a must win game for both sides – the loser is going to be cut adrift at the bottom of the table. After the misery of three straight defeats to start the season, CSK finally got their campaign off the ground on Saturday evening in style – Sanju Samson was brilliant, smashing a hundred off 52 balls. At least they have a win on the board now and they’re off the bottom of the table.

That side below them now is KKR! They arrive in Chennai in desperate need of their first win of the season. Their campaign has been nothing short of a disaster. Two heavy defeats, a washout against Punjab Kings, and then a heartbreaking last ball loss to Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday that summed up their misfortune perfectly. The pressure is beginning to mount, and the bowling remains the core issue. Cameron Green, their record overseas buy, is only now beginning to contribute with the ball after Cricket Australia restricted his bowling in the early weeks due to a back injury. He finally bowled in the Lucknow game, picking up the big wicket of Rishabh Pant – they really need him to fire, along with Narine.

The big question hovering over this game is MS Dhoni. The 44 year old legend has been sidelined since the start of the tournament with a calf injury. Reports suggest he will undergo a fitness test ahead of this game – the prospect of Dhoni walking out at Chepauk for the first time this season will send the yellow army into absolute delirium. As we know, the IPL is not just about cricket, it’s all about the showbiz drama too!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Chennai is one of the great IPL venues, and one that requires you to keep an open mind on scoring. This is generally one of the more spin friendly IPL venues, but we have had two very high scoring games here to start the tournament. The first inning scores have been 209/5 (chased) and 212/5 (won). Dew can completely change the nature of the surface as regards to spin, and obviously we are early in the tournament too. It is also worth noting that Chennai is experiencing extreme summer heat right now; conditions in the early evening will be warm and humid before the dew factor kicks in late. Watch the first few overs closely to get a read on the surface.

RECOMMENDED BET:

This is definitely a game for small stakes. It’s very easy to pick holes in both sides here – it’s no wonder they fill the bottom two places in the table. KKR do have serious batting firepower when the line-up clicks, but their bowling though remains a genuine liability. The CSK batting has to be a worry outside of Samson, but at least their bowling seems better than KKR. With home advantage, it’s no surprise to see CSK favourites – especially in front of a passionate home crowd that will be electric should Dhoni appear. However, I really make this a 50/50 game between two poor sides, and while they have serious issues, the value call has to be KKR at 2.14 or bigger.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Dew is the absolute key factor here – you must watch for it closely. Obviously that will go a long to way deciding conditions. As I said above, a heavy dew here will take out the spin element and we’re likely to see another high scoring game then. However, with the history at this venue I wouldn’t go into it expecting a high scoring game! The KKR batting can be explosive in bursts, and they will need a very good score given how weak their bowling has been. However, they come up against one of the weakest batting line-ups here so they might just get away with it!
