THE EDGE: The Edge previews the Cricket World Cup clash between AFGHANISTAN v AUSTRALIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Afghanistan v Australia
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We’re nearing the end of the group stage at the Cricket World Cup, and we have a vital game on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Afghanistan facing Australia on Tuesday. Their chances are slim, but Afghanistan still have a chance of reaching the Semi-Finals. They will need two wins, here against Australia and then their final fixture against South Africa. That would seem an impossible task, but to be in this position is a pretty good achievement for Afghanistan. For Australia, they have been very solid throughout the World Cup and after a win against England and India hammering South Africa at the weekend, Australia might actually claim second spot.
It’s certain now that India will top the table, so it’s pretty certain we’ll have an Australia v South Africa Semi-Final regardless of the results in the coming days. New Zealand have to try and hold onto fourth with Pakistan and Afghanistan chasing them. I can’t see the net run rate changing so much that Australia will fall behind New Zealand so they lose twice and New Zealand win their final game. New Zealand’s game will be must win against Sri Lanka, but they will be far more nervous if Afghanistan manage to pull off a win here.
Given they have had issues in India, especially against spin, in the past Australia will be pretty delighted with their performance thus far. They’ve put five wins together since losing their opening two games against India and South Africa; the best two sides in the tournament but it will be interesting to see has that Indian hammering dented the South African confidence in their batting. Australia will be thinking win here and they could have a good run to the Final.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back in Mumbai on Tuesday, and it has massively paid to bat first here. Even sides who are used to the kind of heat we have in Mumbai during the day have struggled bowling first. It’s funny to think chasing works so well here in the IPL, but in an ODI it’s been a massive edge to bat first. The first inning scores have been 399/7, 382/5 and 357/8 – they have all won by huge margins too. It’s a no brainer what to do at the toss here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Although Australia are undoubtedly the better side in paper here, the 1.19 looks a little shorter given how big the toss is here. The only thing is Afghanistan won’t have spinning conditions to trouble the Australian middle order; however I feel if Afghanistan can bat first here we might see a closer game than the odds suggest. They have put some fine performances in at this World Cup, and while obviously they aren’t as consistent as the top sides, they have it in their locker. I would have a small bet on Afghanistan, if they bat first.
The Edge Says:
One point win Afghanistan (if they bat first) to beat Australia at 5.9 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Trading in-running at the Wankhede has been pretty straightforward so far at this World Cup! Batting first has been massively important, and it’s hard to see past that edge. For Afghanistan, I would expect a nice trade if they bat first and if Australia were to bat first, you’d have to be worried about a 1.01 train. You definitely don’t want to be bowling in the Mumbai heat!
