THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Hundred format match between Manchester Originals v Welsh Fire with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Manchester Originals v Welsh Fire
MATCH OVERVIEW:
While all the focus will be on Lord’s this week as England do battle with South Africa, we also have The Hundred to enjoy on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. It’s definitely open to debate whether or not the ECB should have a Test series in the middle of the Hundred, but here we are. It’s been a shame for English cricket fans that they haven’t been able to see Ben Stokes or Jonny Bairstow in The Hundred this year, and now they are losing more stars with the likes of Joe Root needed for the Test side. Such is the English schedule, they will always run into this issues – to be fair the schedule is jam packed – it’s no wonder England need two sides, a white ball and a red ball team.
Unfortunately for these two sides, they come into this game looking for their first win. The standard has been very high this season with the overseas stars really playing well – we’ve saw high scores and plenty of sixes. This game is going to decide who sits in bottom place however! Both sides have yet to have any joy from their three games. Welsh Fire have looked particularly poor – Jonny Baristow decided he wasn’t playing in The Hundred and that was obviously a huge blow at the top of the order. Even when it looked like they gave themselves a superb chance of winning at the weekend in Cardiff, they came up short chasing 130/7. To only finish five down and not chase the runs is strange, and Miller finished not out too. Credit to Birmingham Phoenix – they defended 13 runs off the final 10 balls.
Manchester Originals have played better cricket than Welsh Fire, but they have the same 0 for 3 record. This fixture is very interesting because we definitely have a clash of two weak points. The Welsh Fire batting looks pretty poor, and the Manchester Originals bowling looks poor. Who’s going to come out on top?
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the third game at Old Trafford, and we’ve had two high scoring games so far. The first inning scores were 161/4 and 189/3; and they were both chased down. Clearly we have very good batting conditions here and I’d expect another high scoring game. The only thing to worry about is we have had a heatwave recently in the UK so surely the wickets will slow down at some point. However, I would suggest that the ECB want high scoring games and plenty of action, so I’d expect another good wicket. Also, there are thunderstorms forecast this week, so keep an eye on the radar.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As I said above, this is an interesting game because of the weak point of both sides. The Manchester Originals bowling looks very weak, and they have conceded some very high scores already. They lack a star in the attack, and Andre Russell isn’t really fit enough to bowl quickly these days – he went for 27 runs off 10 balls at the weekend here. There’s nothing wrong with the Manchester batting however – they look impressive in that department. The major problem here is although the Manchester bowling is weak, the Welsh Fire batting looks terrible. They have recorded scores of 107/7, 119/6 and 126/5. They have David Miller in the middle order, but take him out and they look pretty weak. Manchester Originals are favourites here and rightly so, I’m going to keep stakes small as both sides sit bottom but it’s hard to see past them – the Welsh Fire look like the side who will finish bottom this season.
The Edge Says:
One point win Manchester Originals to beat Welsh Fire at 1.77 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With good batting conditions expected, you generally want to be on the batting side here. We’ve saw two high scores, and then they got chased down too. However, I’m not sure that strategy blindly applies to this game – I just couldn’t support the Welsh Fire batting until we see some massive improvement. They’re going to get very good batting conditions here so let’s see how they go. I feel the best angle into this game will be getting on Manchester Originals when they are batting. They have an excellent batting line-up and we’ll get a good wicket.
