SUNDAY PREMIER LEAGUE: The Striker previews Sunday’s Premier League game between LEEDS UNITED v LIVERPOOL at 4.30pm with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended match stats.

LEEDS V LIVERPOOL

4.30pm We only have one Premier League game to enjoy on Sunday afternoon, but it’s an absolute cracker as Leeds host Liverpool. On paper, this could be a crazy game – both sides love to attack and leave plenty of gaps at the back. Hopefully we get an early spark and we could see five or more goals between the sides. I’m sure there will be plenty of big opinions either way on the goals market on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Last season, Liverpool won 4-3 at Anfield while at Elland Road it was 1-1. I’d be surprised if we saw under 2.5 goals win however!

I’m actually surprised to see over 2.5 goals trading as big as 1.6, and it might be difficult to find a better value bet than that. Liverpool are trading around 1.8 at the time of writing, with Leeds around 4.5 and the draw 4.3. Leeds have had a reasonably slow start to the season with only two draws from three games. Their first half at Old Trafford was a very entertaining affair but then it all went wrong in the second half and they lost 5-1. Then they drew 2-2 with Everton with an xG of only 1.06 and 1-1 with Burnley with an xG of 1.49.

It’s fair to say Leeds haven’t clicked into gear yet. Perhaps more worrying is the fact they conceded xG’s of 1.67 against Burnley and 1.96 against Everton with home advantage. Although they did concede too many chances last season, so nothing much has changed there. Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea after hammering Norwich and Burnley to start their season. Klopp’s side were exceptionally unlucky not to win, creating an xG of 3.35!

That type of performance against a side like Chelsea is obviously very eye-catching, and maybe Liverpool are finally getting back to their best. This is a very good test for them to see where they are really. If over 2.5 goals didn’t offer so much value at 1.6, I would be backing Liverpool at 1.8. Leeds just haven’t been creating chances this season even though it’s early, but they still look pretty weak at the back. That will be the difference for me and Liverpool will win the game. Even though Liverpool beat Norwich 3-0 away from home, they gave away an xG of 1.81 and I can only see an open game here with plenty of chances for both sides. Overs is very much worth backing at 1.6.

● Liverpool have lost just one of their last nine away league games against Leeds (W5 D3), going down 4-3 in November 2000 with Mark Viduka netting all four goals for the Whites.
● Liverpool have only failed to score in one of their last 22 meetings with Leeds in all competitions, finding the net in each of their last 15 against the Whites since a goalless draw at Elland Road in April 1999.
● After winning their last four games of the 2020-21 campaign, Leeds are without a win so far this season (D2 L1). They’ve not failed to win any of their first four games to a top-flight campaign since 1958-59 under Bill Lambton.
● Leeds are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League home games (W3 D4), their longest run without defeat at Elland Road in the top-flight since a run of 15 in 2001.
● Coming into this weekend’s games, only Brentford (15) are on a longer unbeaten run in England’s top four tiers than Liverpool (13 – W10 D3). Away from home, Liverpool have won seven of their last eight Premier League matches (D1), including each of the last four in a row.
● Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has created more chances than any other player in the Premier League this season (15), while no player has provided more successful open play crosses than Alexander-Arnold (6).
● Liverpool’s Sadio Mané has made more off the ball runs into the box than any other player in the Premier League this season (42). Meanwhile, 17 of Leeds striker Patrick Bamford’s 32 off the ball runs into the box saw a teammate try to find him with a pass, the most targeted runs of any player in the division.
● Leeds’ Patrick Bamford has been involved in five goals in his last seven Premier League appearances (4 goals, 1 assist), while the England striker is also on 98 goals in total in his English league career (272 games).
● Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored 99 goals in 161 Premier League appearances, and a goal here would see him become the fifth fastest player to reach 100 in the competition after Alan Shearer (124), Harry Kane (141), Sergio Agüero (147) and Thierry Henry (160).
