CARABAO CUP THURSDAY: The Striker previews Thursday’s match between Man City v Liverpool with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MANCHESTER CITY V LIVERPOOL

8pm It’s a swift return to action for English football after the World Cup, but we have a cracking fixture on Thursday as Manchester City host Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. This is no doubt one of the biggest fixtures in English football at the moment, but with it being a Cup game we’ll likely see plenty of changes. Manchester City’s squad played the most minutes at the World Cup from any Premier League side, understandable given the stars they have on offer, and it would be a massive surprise if we saw a strong starting XI.

We’ll just have to wait and see what kind of teams we see here. Julian Alvarez will miss the game for City though after winning the tournament with Argentina, and then you have Foden, Silva and Ederson who all played the latter stages too. It’s pretty much certain though that Erling Haaland will start given he didn’t play in the World Cup, and Kevin De Bruyne will likely be involved given Belgium got knocked out at the Group stages.

For Liverpool, Klopp has always rested his main stars for this competition and usually the FA Cup too. We’re likely to see a young side – Konate is sure to miss this game having played in the World Cup Final for France, and then Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arther Melo are injured. Liverpool could easily start Salah, Nunez and Firmino though given none of them had a very tough World Cup.

I think we’ll see a lot of market movement around the teams news here, so that could definitely be a trading angle. The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Manchester City 1.98, Liverpool 4.1 and the draw is 3.7. Although the market is expecting goals, I was surprised to see Over 2.5 goals trading as big as 1.61 when I clicked into the market. These two always scream goals when they meet, and we’re going to have so much attacking talent on the pitch it’s hard not to see an open game.

I suppose you could say coming back from the World Cup, we could have a low tempo affair with this being a Cup game, and I will reduce my stakes with that in mind. However, we could also have a very entertaining affair with neither side likely to be cagey – we could see younger players in certain positions too, and that will bring mistakes against the likes of Haaland, De Bruyne and Mo Salah if they start after a rest. Over 2.5 goals looks a nice option at 1.61.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Over 2.5 goals at 1.61 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
