MANCHESTER CITY V LYON
8pm The last of the Champions League Quarter Finals take place on Saturday as Manchester City meet Lyon. It’s fair to say that City would have been delighted with the draw and they are heavy favourites. PSG and Bayern Munich weren’t far off 2.0 this week but City are as short as 1.26 at the time of writing and they have an excellent chance to reach the Semi Final stage.
Lyon were beaten 2-1 by Juventus last week but went through on away goals. Juventus were very unlucky as they created an xG of over 3 but could only score twice. Meanwhile City repeated their 2-1 win over La Liga Champions Real Madrid in another impressive display. City have been absolutely excellent at times since lockdown, but they’ve also had a few surprisingly bad performances. In general though when it has mattered they have come out on top and it’s very hard to see anything other than a routine City win here.
Lyon will hope take the game into the latter stages and find a goal on the counter attack. Ironically given the match odds market, Lyon actually got two results against City in the Group stages last season. Lyon beat them 2-1 away from home and we seen a 2-2 draw in France. I see goals again here between these two.
Lyon are an attacking side and as we have seen in the Premier League this season, City have had problems at the back. They will need to improve there if they are indeed to win the Champions League this season. Both Teams To Score is definitely of interest at odds against, however over 2.5 goals is worth backing at 1.65. City are excellent going forward and Lyon can only help make this a good game to watch with plenty of chances.
