NATIONS LEAGUE: Our European football tipster The Ultra previews the Nations League games on Saturday between ICELAND v ENGLAND and PORTUGAL v CROATIA both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

ICELAND V ENGLAND
5pm England fans won’t have happy memories of seeing this fixture. Although a lot has changed since Iceland knocked England out of Euro 2016 in the Last 16. At the time it was a massive humiliation for England, but it was Iceland’s time in the sun. Since then Iceland have gone backwards. They had a tough Group with Switzerland and Belgium in the last Nations League, however they lost four matches nonetheless. They will meet Romania later in the year in a Euro 2021 Playoff after finishing third in their Group behind France and Turkey.
Even allowing for the fact that England have a couple of issues themselves, anything bar an England win will be a big surprise. England’s issues are largely of their own making too; Harry Maguire had to be left out after what happened in Greece. Iceland had a very average Group in Euro qualifying – they were beaten 4-2 by Albania for example and England have a couple of levels above them here. It’s early in the season and I wouldn’t go mad on this, but England look good value at 1.85 to cover the 1.5 goal handicap.

PORTUGAL V CROATIA
7.45pm This is a fascinating fixture. Croatia have had their ups and downs since losing the 2018 World Cup Final to France. They finished bottom of their Nations League Group afterwards, and then topped their (now) Euro 2021 qualifying Group. Portugal lifted the Nations League title but they couldn’t top their Group in Euro 2021 qualifying with Ukraine finishing ahead of them. You get the feeling that these two sides aren’t improving, but they are good enough to still hang around the top level of International football.
It will be fascinating to see who wins tonight, as I feel that there isn’t much between the sides. Portugal look pretty short at 2.0 and most of the players won’t be at the peak of their fitness given the timing. I think we have seen that in the opening games. The Portugal stars are getting old and while Croatia are a solid side; there’s nothing fantastic about them. I prefer the draw at 3.55 over the Portugal lay at 2.0 in what should be a very close game. We landed two nice draws on Thursday and it looks good value here again.
