CORAL ESSEX VASE
The 2012 Coral Essex Vase takes place at Romford tonight – live on Sky Sports.
It is an intriguing final containing five railers.
TRAP 3 Smiler Jack and TRAP 6 Planning are unbeaten in the competition and a battle for early bragging rights is a huge factor in the race.
TRAP 6 is the sole wide runner and has a fantastic draw and if showing his customary early dash will be hard to peg back.
But they will all be looking over there shoulders for the defending champ TRAP 1 Westmead Maldini trading around 6.0 on the DAQ. He won the race last year by 4 1/4 lengths when 2/1 FAV in a time of 35.25 but he hasnt been sparkling of late. If he happens to rediscover that form Nick Savvas dog would come into calculations.
The rest of the card contains a lot of match ups and a couple of sub-standard races.
The race I’d like to concentrate on is the 9.10, the 575 stayers where I fancy TRAP 1 Lenson Ginger who I would expect to go off around the 3.5 mark.
He has to turn form around with TRAP 5 Bubbly Jaytee who beat him twice drawn in trap 6 the last of which was in September in the Champions night maiden stayers. Bubbly Jaytee was on top of his game then and was on a winning sequence. This time he has not got his trap and is not certain to lead.
Of the others TRAP 2 Risky Rosaleen has won five times over CD but is 15 runs without a win.
TRAP 3 Proper Cat won a maiden on Friday and has a fast Waterford win but has more on his plate here.
TRAP 4 King Launchlan is three from 12, with two wins over 695 at Hove and one over 750 at Romford and the drop back in trip would be a concern.
TRAP 6 Ballintine Molly ran in the Oaks and the Leger with credit but is none from 13 over this distance which is an alarming stat.
Get on TRAP 1 Lenson Ginger at an estimated price of 3.5 plus.
