Juvenile Derby Time at Shelbourne Park
The final of the Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Derby is the feature of this weekends racing at Shelbourne Park. Callaway Knegare was simply sensational in the semifinal when winning his heat in a blistering 27:85 and will be impossible to beat if repeating that clock. The draw has handed a lifeline to his rivals and Callaway Knegare will have little room for error in a cracking final this weekend. Saturday nights card from Shelbourne will be live on SIS. Verdict: Callaway Knegare is the obvious starting point and is as short as 1/2 in places to win the event unbeaten. The Owen McKenna trained star puppy has impressed in every run around Shelbourne Park and was paw perfect at traps last weekend. Knegare is unbeaten at Shelbourne and has won his last three starts at the Dublin track by a combined twenty-eight lengths. His 27:85 run last week is the sixth fastest run ever at the track and he will be impossible to beat with a repeat. Trap four is far from ideal for Knegare and he faces some hugely fast performers in this.
Ballymac Briar won his semifinal in style and is drawn to run a big one on the fence. The Liam Dowling trained youngster has clocked 28:25 on his last two outings and has a big chance if leading early. Boylesports Blue is another who will be seeking the early lead. Paul Hennessy’s runner has clocked 28:18 around here in the past and has some consistent sectionals to his name but needs to produce his best if he is to get to the front in this contest.
Tivoli Milo is another who must do everything right but is certainly a greyhound with a huge future. The big finishers are Hello Diego and Innfield Destiny. Diego is the second runner for Paul Hennessy, and he looks sure to improve for a step up in trip but will need luck to figure. That leaves us with Innfield Destiny for Barry Clancy. Barry has always thought plenty of this puppy and he has displayed huge pace in several races at Shelbourne. He was well beaten behind Knegare last week but still clocked 28:41 in defeat despite suffering trouble on more than one occasion. Destiny has posted 28:07 in a recent trial and he has a huge engine, but racing room is key.
It’s hard to look past Callaway Knegare but at 20/1 Innfield Destiny could just benefit if there was to be trouble up front and appeals as value in a quality contest. Good luck to all connections.
Supporting Card
Trainer Karol Ramsbottom has his string in good form at present and he has a couple of chances on the night. Cheque For Cash looks the best of his runners. Cash scored in real style last time when flashing from traps to make all in a very impressive 27:93. Trap five this Saturday is far from ideal but if he can start in similar fashion, he could well prove too sharp for his rivals, he’s one to keep on the right side of.
Punters can get off to a winning start in the opener at Shelbourne by keeping the faith with the pacey Pennys Lynx. Eugene Price’s powerhouse should be nearing peak fitness following a short layoff and can prove too good if returning to anything like his best. He was slightly unlucky last time behind Azurite but can atone for that defeat if breaking on terms here.
Cheque For Sir and Halo will be popular in the fourth race on the card but one in here at a big price may be Mister Myles for Adam Dunford. Myles displayed real promise when winning around Youghal earlier in his career and its best to ignore his last run. He has a peach of a draw in this contest with Val Tashadelek in five likely to head for the rails on the run to the corner.
Ryhope Beach and Jaytee Craze are the big names in race eight on the card, The duo are among the fastest in the country on their day but both can miss the kick on occasions, it may be worth taking a chance on the promising Scooby Pacemaker from one. His race record of two wins from twenty-one starts is a worry but he has a good draw to work from this weekend and will surely improve if allowed to dictate. It’s a cracking card at Shelbourne and all races will be live on SIS.
