Mixed news on the inspection front this morning but the good news is that Wolverhampton is on – however for the second successive day Kempton have been forced to abandon their card.

Wolverhampton Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron felt it prudent to check conditions in light of a forecast for further snow, but has been able to give the fixture the thumbs up.

He said: “We had further light snow yesterday afternoon and into the night but we have worked the track and although we are currently calling it slow, racing goes ahead.

“We are forecast between -1C and 1C today and there remains a low risk of further snow but all local roads are accessible.

“We will continue to monitor the conditions and if we can, we will try to reinstate the track towards standard.”

Today’s meeting at Kempton has been abandoned due to “ice crystals” in the track.

Sunday’s meeting at the Sunbury venue was called off due to snow and officials had planned to inspect the track at 9am.

However, they have made an earlier call with the track unraceable due to “ice crystals”.

And looking further ahead Wednesday’s meeting at Catterick has been abandoned following a 9am inspection.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham reports the weather to have been slightly warmer over the weekend, but with snow on the track, there is no prospect of racing.

She said: “It’s not actually been that cold over the weekend but it’s snowing again as we speak and it’s not going to improve.

“Our next meeting is February 4 so let’s hope things have improved by then!”

Exeter will inspect at 8am on Tuesday for Wednesday’s card.
