DRIFTERS DO WIN: SHAMROCK’S NAP and ONLY BET on Thursday Mikael D’haguenet was a big drifter at Thurles but it didn’t stop him winning at 7/4. TWO FROM THE LAST 3 NAPS HAVE WON: 5/1 and 7/4.
The market signs looked ominous ahead of the Thurles Racecourse Hurdle yesterday with Mikael D’haguenet drifting and deposed as favourite by stable companion Mourad.
Fortunately, I was on the right one of the Mullins pair and Mikael D’haguenet won well at 7/4.
It’s a mini-sequence but things have picked up since Cheltenham on the NAPS front.
16 Mar CAOIMHE’S DELIGHT (NAP) WON 5/1
17 Mar SHUTTER ISLAND (NAP) 2nd (at 5/1)
18,19 Mar – NO BETS
20 Mar MIKAEL D’HAGUENET (NAP) WON 7/4
I’m looking forward to the start on the flat season on Sunday at the Curragh (how quickly has that come around ?) but before then, it’s the traditional Friday night trip to Dundalk.
Best bet on the card for me is Alvar in the 8.15.
The Mick Halford trained runner wasn’t beaten too far here in a mile handicap last week and this looks easier and the best trip for him. He was a C&D winner two starts ago.
Home Secretary has ability – but is now a ten-year-old and might be tapped for toe inside the closing stages.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Alvar (8.15 Dundalk)
