Strike action prevented Spanish football getting underway on time but last week’s agreement meant that La Liga finally kicked into action this weekend.

The final match of the opening round of fixtures sees Barcelona host Villarreal tonight.

Villarreal might be one of Spain’s best teams, but they are still no match for Barcelona. They ended last season a massive 34 points behind the La Liga champions despite earning Champions League qualification courtesy of their fourth place finish.

Barca did the league double over the Yellow Submarine on their way to picking up the title and Pep Guardiola’s side are not expected to slip up here as 1.27 jollies on BETDAQ.

The last meeting at the Camp Nou ended 3-1 in Barca’s favour and they will be looking to hit the ground running in what should be another stellar season.

If there’s any hope for the visitors, it is offered by the fact that Barca were caught cold on their first home match of last season, losing 2-0 to a Hercules side that would go on to be relegated.

However, as anyone who has seen Barcelona play in the last couple of years will surely agree, it is hard to advise anything other than backing a win for the hosts.
