DAQMAN LANDS HIS NAP AT 11-4: Gothic (WON 11-4) was a winning nap for Daqman and for Sir Michael Stoute at Leicester yesterday, needing all the urgings of jockey Ryan Moore.

BEST BET AT WINDOR TONIGHT: Today’s nap is at Windsor tonight, but Daqman keeps stakes down with rain expected to fall at all English tracks today. Daqman opens with a tip for Galileo (?).

MAKE A DERBY DATE WITH GALILEO AGAIN

What price Galileo for next year’s Derby? I wish I’d written that the year before he began ‘2001 the Epsom race odyssey’ for Aidan O’Brien, with five Derby winners in total for Ballydoyle since then.

But I repeat: what price Galileo for next year’s Derby? Here are the first six in some books for 2015 with their sire and trainer:

Highland Reel (Galileo) A O’Brien
John F Kennedy (Galileo) A O’Brien
Gleneagles (Galileo) A O’Brien
Sir Isaac Newton (Galileo) A O’Brien
East India (Galileo) A O’Brien
Homeland (Galileo) A O’Brien

According to Ballydoyle’s past education of their Epsom heroes, the O’Brien Gang Of Six could take in one of the prestigious two-year-old classics later in the year.

This also applied to the two other Irish winners – New Approach and Sea The Stars – which make up the Emerald Isle’s 50% Epsom Derby strike-rate since Galileo.

Galileo, himself, was a late developer. So, too, Ruler Of The World, who did not even race until his winning season. Otherwise one of the six could follow these routes to Epsom glory:

High Chaparral (Racing Post Trophy, Doncaster) 2002
New Approach (Curragh Futurity)
Sea The Stars (Beresford Stakes, The Curragh)
Camelot (Racing Post Trophy, Doncaster)
Australia (Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Trial, Leopardstown)

WINDSOR: LAW ACCORDING TO HANNON

AYR Charles Hills’ Kodiac filly Kodiva, runner-up at Goodwood, has the potential for a two-year-old classic win in the Moyglare or the Fillies’ Mile.

Kodiac has sired 147 juvenile winners but just 14 on soft ground and that’s the snag with Ayr today, with the rain having moved North so, instead of a banker on Kodiva (2.30), I shall play some Daq Multiples, more in hope than conviction.

Ingleby Symphony (4.00) is 3-6 at Ayr with her rider, George Chaloner, having a 25% record on the course, and this filly’s odds (3.05 on BETDAQ as I write) are a tad better than Kodiva’s (1.6) with, says the early market, just the old boy with top weight, Karaka Jack, to beat.

Rain would give Las Verglas Star a better chance than his 11.0 on BETDAQ for the class-3 race (5.30). Richard Fahey and George Chaloner won the first running last year with a Goodwood loser. Las Verglas Star also ran at Goodwood.

THIRSK Already soft this morning, which recommends a bet on Sheriff Of Nawton (8.00), who won as he liked in such conditions at Redcar but was not at home on the firm last time.

WINDSOR Interesting idea in the opener. Lindart, who pulled hard over 1m 2f in first-time blinkers latest, has been dropped back to 6f. Richard Hannon is giving him his head, and has booked star claimer, Cam Hardie, on his only ride of the day: 17.0 on BETDAQ.

I fancy Team Hannon with Divine Law (7.10) in the nursery: 3.5 on BETDAQ as I write. Divine Law’s sire has his best results on soft ground and the favourite this morning, Taper Tantrum, won on firm.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 20 points, except Daq Multiples)
BET 2pts win and place LAS VERGLAS STAR (5.30 Ayr)
BET 1.25pts win and place LINDART (5.40 Windsor)
BET 8pts win (nap) DIVINE LAW (7.10 Windsor)
DAQ MULTIPLES: 3 x 2pts win doubles and a 1pt win treble Kodiva (2.30 Ayr), Divine Law (7.10 Windsor), Sheriff Of Nawton (8.00 Thirsk)
