DAQMAN BANKER DANCES HOME: Daqman yesterday put maximum-stakes on Deauville Dancer (Won Evens) at Chepstow, and both his headlines struck gold: ’18.0 Raider Rerouted Worth A Place’ and ‘Dine Out On The Dancer This Evening.’
THREE NAPS WIN IN FIVE DAYS: Deauville Dancer was his third winning nap in five days, following successes on Sunday and Tuesday, showing 101 points profit to 20 points level-stakes:
WON 11-4 Gothic (Sunday)
WON 100-30 Showstoppa (Tuesday)
WON evens Deauville Dancer (Thursday)
PLUS THREE PLACES UP AT 14-1: Rerouted was his third 14-1 outsider to be placed this week, following Las Verglas Star (2nd 14-1) and Lindart (3rd 14-1) on Monday. His biggest offer taken today was 12.5 in a race at Catterick.
RACE THEY FATTENED UP BEFORE THE AXE
Barmpots! I had a science master at my red-brick grammar school whose verbal reprimand for low achievement was consistent, if strident and decidedly ornery. He would present you to the class as a ‘barmpot’.
When they have just raised the prizemoney value of a punters’ favourite, third best Royal Ascot betting handicap, the Buckingham Palace Stakes, what do racing’s authorities do next? They axe it from the programme altogether. Kaput. Finito.
Betting is the lifeblood of racing, yet never is it oxygenated by the powers-that-be, never consulted or considered. Barmpots twice over on this one, fattening a golden goose, then killing it off before its time.
GOSDEN CAN WIN WESTERN SHOOT-OUT
2.50 Deauville If a line through French Derby runner-up, Shamkiyr works out, John Gosden’s Western Hymn must win this clash with Grand Prix de Paris runner-up Prince Gibraltar.
Prince Gibraltar was third when Shamkiyr was second at Chantilly but Western Hymn (nap) had Shamkiyr back in fourth at Maisons last month.
3.20 Newbury The pattern of past results is for winners between 5-1 and 12-1 SP (never a favourite), usually from the low six stalls.
Horses which string out a poor field and win by a dozen lengths are often flattered, as may be the case with Epsom Hill, who beat ‘nothing’ in a slow time at Thirsk.
He is entitled to improve, as a three-year-old, but he is also badly drawn in gate 10, and is raised 10lb and up in grade to boot.
Cyclone has been hurdling for Jonjo O’Neill but in his younger days landed back-to-back wins for Johnny Murtagh over shorter distances and once raced against Derby winner Ruler Of The World: 9.8 on BETDAQ this morning.
3.55 Newbury Accipiter, Littlemissblakeney, Magic Florence, Parsley and Rose’s Premiere are by soft-ground sires.
The Team Hannon (3.85) favourite, Dangerous Moonlite, finished behind Littlemissblakeney in the Queen Mary before that one got a rear view of the other Hannon runner here, Parsley, at Newmarket.
Richard Hughes appears to have chosen Dangerous Moonlite but Parsley looked too big at 6.8 on BETDAQ this morning
4.20 Nottingham There could be a lot of pace on here and this could suit the hold-up filly Thatchereen, a Mastercraftsman roan who has found her feet at this trip.
So, too, recently her trainer Michael Bell. After a very lean start, he’s now in the kind of form that’s just landed him six winners in 11 days. Penalty negated by the claimer, and 7.8 on BETDAQ , with six left in, reads like value for money.
Sir Michael Stoute (Scallop) has a shocking record at Nottingham: 41 starters in four years without a winner.
5.25 Newmarket Tadpole, sent out by the William Haggas winner-machine, is bred for today’s soft conditions, and will need to perform well if she is to justify her Fillies’ Mile entry: 6.4 on BETDAQ, as I write. Save on the favourite.
5.45 Catterick Course specialist (four wins) and last year’s winner of this race, Tinseltown was far too big at 12.5 on BETDAQ this morning. I can see an attempt to make all the running.
6.40 Catterick The placed horses when Izzthatright won over CD have done nothing for the form and the gelding faces two newcomers to handicaps in Mutafarrej (5.2 on BETDAQ) and Steady Major (6.6), a lone raider for course specialist David Simcock.
7.10 Catterick A race farmed by Mark Johnston (form in this in the past four years 1121) and with three-year-olds seven out of 10. I predict a gamble among the bottom four and Nagambie (7.4 offers) was my early position.
