SHAMROCK AT DOWNPATRICK: SHAMROCK starts his new week at Downpatrick with a look at their seven race jumps card – on expected good to firm ground.

You know it was a bad day when your best result was a non runner 🙁

Edelmira coming out of the Royal Whip Stakes was actually a blessing in disguise as I wouldn’t have found Hall Of Mirrors – the outsider of the four remaining runners.

The nap, Lucida, did run well and was only beaten 1/2 length into second at 3/1 by another big priced winner Raydara who won the Debutante Stakes for Mick Halford at 11/1.

I was wrong to oppose Gleneagles in the Futurity Stakes – he won it well – and like last time seems to just do enough, so it’s hard to get a reading on how good he actually is.

The final Group race of the afternoon was won by Leading Light. Probably more workmanlike than anything else but a perfectly satisfactory comeback run after Royal Ascot and the Irish Leger again looks on the cards.

I thought the best bet on the Downpatrick card today looks to be The Cub in the maiden hurdle at 3.40.

He is trading at around 5 on BETDAQ at the time of writing and whilst beaten when falling over fences at Tramore last time out he does have a couple of good fourths to his name over hurdles which stand out in a race as modest as this.
