NO IRISH RACING ON TUESDAY: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday.

Sole Power is amongst the 25 entries for Saturday’s big race, the Sprint Cup at Haydock Park.

The Eddie Lynam trained star sprinter is disputing ante-post favouritism for the race but surely the distance must flag up a note of caution?

As prolific as he has been this season with consecutive wins in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, the King’s Stand Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and most recently the Nunthorpe Stakes at York – all those races have come over the five furlong trip.

His last UK run over six furlongs came in the July Cup at Newmarket last season when he could only finish fifth and he has never won over this longer sprint trip.

He might not even start. Connections have stated that he will only take part if he gets his preferred quick ground and Haydock remains good to soft although a drying week is forecast.

Of the market leaders, at this stage, the Tom Hogan trained Gordon Lord Byron has to be preferred given he is much more experienced over this trip and was only pipped on the post by Jamesie in the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh last time out.
