FIVE WINNERS OUT OF EIGHT: Daqman’s morning-line BETDAQ standouts, called Early Mouse Bets, had two more winners yesterday to bring the two-day total to five out of eight. The day’s negative was the lack of a run for his nap, Lawyer, unseated rider in a flat race.
THE LEGER MEETING OPENS: Today Daqman goes in search of better luck for the nap on the opening card of the four-day Doncaster St Leger meeting.
BETDAQ RACES AT KEMPTON: It’s a cracking day for punters, with additionally four BETDAQ-sponsored events on the evening Polytrack card at Kempton Park, in total more than seven hours’ racing.
MECCA’S LOOKS THE VALUE AT DONCASTER
2.30 Doncaster The opening race of the 2014 Ladbrokes St Leger meeting is a tricky looking Nursery.
There are a couple of question marks over some like Grey Sensation and Only Joking who are both taking a rise in class which may prove a step beyond them. When Will It End is probably the most experienced of the lot but, in terms of what he’s up against today, he looks a little exposed as he is steadily rising up in the handicap.
Salateen ran a really solid race at York last time out over 7 in a Group 3 to finish fifth behind Dutch Connection, beaten just over 4 lengths. That looks to be most proven form having won a Maiden very impressively prior to that and he drops back slightly in class for this contest and could be hard to beat.
3.00 Doncaster I’ve been stuck on 98 winners for some time in my challenge to Pricewise of the Racing Post (the score is 98-36 since the start of the jumps last year) but I hope to hit the 100 over the course of the four days at Doncaster.
This is the race in which we do battle today and although Reckless Abandon looks to be the standard bearer, the drop back to 5 furlongs is not the most suitable distance for him. If he is able to cope with the drop in trip, then he could be hard to beat. It is a big ‘if’ though.
Pricewise has gone for Steps but with the way that the weights are set, I think he has a tough task, especially having to give weight to Reckless Abandon and I am finding it hard to see Steps get passed the favourite.
Mecca’s Angel looks to be the best value in the race. She’s proven over the trip and the ground, being on the slightly softer side of good, is also in her favour. In Hamilton two runs back, he was a very impressive winner of a similar contest at Hamilton and won nicely previously to that at Thirsk.
On the conditions of today’s race, she looks to be nicely treated and I am taking on Pricewise with her.
4.10 Doncaster This Conditions event over 10 furlongs has attracted six runners. Despite the small field, this is a really competitive race.
Although on paper it looks like a two horse race betwenn Clon Brulee and Nabucco, I’m not sure that Nabucco will get that close as he has been out of form of late.
Clon Brulee is going to be very hard to beat. He’s been in good form lately having won at Newmarket and then took third in a good race at Sandown. He’s nicely weighted for this also and I think he could run out an easy winner.
Red Galileo is the one that I see as the main danger, especially with the way the weights are set but I think he is going to play second fiddle.
GLITTER TO SHINE IN BETDAQ MAIDEN
5.45 Kempton Park BETDAQ No Premium Charge Classified Claiming Stakes
A tricky race to kick off the BETDAQ sponsored races at Kempton this evening with a tricky sprint over 6 furlongs.
Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon team up with the likely favourite in House Captain who hasn’t got a huge amount of experience but may still be a little unexposed. He has run over varying distances so far but put in his best performance over tonight’s trip at Lingfield last time.
Noverre To Go has been slowly dropping in the Handicap since getting to a high of 97 at one stage in his career. He has run well on the All Weather previously and at 75, this is a handicap that he probably should be able to go close off. However, at 8, I fear that his best days are probably well behind him.
Front Page News was my selection for the race but he has been withdrawn this morning so with that in mind I will stick with House Captain for the Hughes/Hannon team.
6.45 Kempton Park BETDAQ £50 Free Bet Maiden Stakes
Although this looks quite an open race on the betting front, I don’t see this being as competitive.
The Godolphin owned Bright Beacon certainly sets the standard with a decent second in a Newbury Maiden recently. However, I am finding it hard to see past Shining Glitter who is coming back from a good run in a Handicap over course and distance last time in a race that has worked out quite well and I don’t think she will need to improve much more than her mark of 72 to go close in this one.
7.15 Kempton Park BETDAQ 50% Commission Refund Handicap
Another race over 12 furlongs, this time a Handicap and there is only for me in this one, Royal Warranty. He won nicely enough last time out in a Maiden at Bath to suggest that 72 could be a slightly unexposed mark and this should be a nice handicap debut for her.
8.15 Kempton Park Win £10,000,000 on the BETDAQ Colossus Conditions Stakes
Godolphin should be able to conclude the BETDAQ sponsored races with a winner this evening courtesy of Local Time.
This filly won at Kempton at the beginning of August over a slightly shorter trip and comes here getting a nice weight allowance from the colts. Sharp Sailor is the most obvious danger but I think Local Time can repel any challengers.
