BETDAQ CARD FAVOURITES TREBLE: Punters plundered three consecutive races on the BETDAQ-sponsored Kempton card last night, landing a hat-trick of favourites.
THE PICK OF FOUR MEETINGS: Today Daqman scours four English meetings, looking for a nap, with just three days left of the official Flat season. But it’s all jumps racing, apart from Wolverhampton AW.
A WORD ABOUT WINCANTON: Daqman warns that, on the day the fat lady sings on the Flat, the big meeting at Wincanton usually goes the way of the local trainer.
WINCANTON FOR FIRST DITCHEAT OVATION
It’s wake up time at Ditcheat. Paul Nicholls, who has made a sputtering start to the jumps season, farms his big home meeting on Saturday so well that he’s landed a total of 22 winners there in the decade.
We’re talking, for the most part, four per race; so, surely, Ditcheat will get back on the rails, the brakes will come off and the whistle blow for full steam ahead at Wincanton.
The Nicholls challenger for big-money honours at the meeting is another Somerset trainer extraordinary, David Pipe, who is going for a hat-trick in the £60,000 Badger Ales Chase with last year’s winner, Standing Ovation.
The seven-year-old was a young pretender after back-to-back wins at Wincanton last October, so the Badger race was a course hat-trick in less than a month.
This time around, Standing Ovation has earned only one hand clapping, runner-up in a prep at Cheltenham a grade below this Listed, when he ran second to a Philip Hobbs winner.
The handicapper has left Hobbs’s Lamb Or Cod on 144 for the fifth consecutive race in the Badger, despite two wins and two seconds leading up to it. But check out the decs and mark down Paul Nicholls’ choice from:

ORBY’S THE MAN AT TOWCESTER
FAKENHAM Two selections at the Norfolk track this afternoon with one in the opening race, a two and a half mile handicap hurdle. Nine runners go to post and there are a couple to choose from, namely Shinooki, Stag’s Leap and Mr Maynard.
Stag’s Leap runs well below his handicap mark of his last run over hurdles which came almost two years ago. He ran nicely on the flat in the middle of September and could play a role in this.
Shinooki won well in a slightly lesser race back in May and followed this up witha a decent third at Market Rasen in June but he hasn’t been seen since.
Mr Maynard is the one that I think has most to give however. He steps back up in trip to two and a half miles having been outpaced over two last time out. Although he won a Class 5 event back in June, he had been mixing it in slightly better company over the summer months and a Handicap mark of 102 could provide him with a nice opportunity.
Later on in the card, the penultimate race is a handicap chase, also over two and a half miles and although there are only five runners, this is a really competitive race.
Frizzo is the one for me in it as he returns to his favoured Good ground. He has been dropping back in the Handicap ever since winning a race back in 2012 when he was rated 124. In conjunction with this, he is very lightly raced with only 7 runs since that win and today’s mark of 106 looks very attractive.
MUSSELBURGH Two late selections for Musselbrugh coming in the final two races.
The penultimate race is a nice handicap hurdle and although Nexius sets the standard for Keith Dalgleish and Wilson Renick, I’m going to take a chance, each way on Mo Rouge who won well last time out at Kelso. Prior to that he ran two good races over today’s trip and three miles finishing third both times with a win in July in his only other Handicap appearance.
The handicapper looks to have been quite lenient with him over the last couple of months and he could have a little bit more up his sleeve.
A three mile Handicap chase closes out the card at Musselburgh and another competitive contest despite the small field.
I’ve gone for Lady Of Verona who really relishes a strong stamina test. Last time out over two and a half miles, she was outpaced but her previous runs over this trip and slightly beyond have yielded a couple of wins and a nice second behind Solway Bay at Perth.
Generous Chief, Armedandbeautiful and Foot The Bill all look to have big chances, but I’m going to stick with the top weight who can hopefully make the most of every yard today.
TOWCESTER My one and only selection for Towcester this afternoon comes at 2.40 in the Handicap Hurdle.
Orby’s Man is very lightly raced sort and his opening mark of 116 looks very fair having won a good race at Worcester, he was then fourth to the decent Fort Worth from the Jonjo O’Neill stable when under a penalty.
Although Malibui Sun also looks like a decent prospect, I can’t see beyond Orby’s Man and he’s the Nap for the day.
