PREVIEW
Cambridge United and Stockport meet for the first time in 17 years this evening as the clubs go head-to-head in the Blue Square Premier. The hosts have started the season well and are only two points off the play-off places after 13 league games.
Jez George’s side are in good form and that is especially the case at Abbey Road in the league. United have won four of their last six home league games, with only one defeat during that run. However, that single league defeat did come in their last game at Southport.
Cambridge have scored in every home game so far, and their goals have been split around the side. Ashley Carew and Michael Gash both have two each to their name, while six other players have bagged a goal since August.
In contrast, Stockport have struggled of late and they have slipped to 17th in the table. The visitors have only won once in their past six league games and their away form is not much better. County have drawn their previous six away league games, so although they’re struggling for victories – Cambridge can expect to work hard for the win.
The recent defeats to Fleetwod and York will have hurt the visitors, plus the fact that their sequence of away draws must surely come to an end soon. With home advantage, Cambridge United are a good bet to nick this one and I would recommend taking the 1.97 available on BETDAQ for that outcome.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Cambridge United at around 1.97: 5 points
Wednesday’s Return: -5.00 points
